66 Months, Out in 5!
The long awaited first terrorist military trial and sentencing is in ladies and gentleman and the verdict is, well, not satisfying. Question is what happens to him in 5 months?

Re: 66 Months, Out in 5!
I was fairly annoyed when I saw this yesterday but assumed I'd be in the minority regarding our handling of enemy combatants.
But stuff like: “After that, I don’t know what happens,” said Judge Allred, who had developed a warm relationship with Mr. Hamdan during months of pretrial hearings. And: Mr. Hamdan, who at times has shown a mischievous sense of humor, raised his arms and said a good-natured, “Bye, bye everybody.” And: “Inshallah,” Judge Allred responded. And: Mr. Hamdan’s answer to his safety if returned to Yemen, Professor Schmitz said, was: “Look, you guys get me out of Gitmo. I’ll take care of Yemen.” Speechless..........Fortunately I can still type. This is clearly a war our Government doesn't intend to 'win', as such. If I were on trial I am fairly certain I wouldn't be 'showing a mischievous sense of humor'. What about the impartiality of the Judge? He developed a warm relationship with a defendant?!?!??! Does he even understand what 'inshallah' means? No, it's not as simple as 'god willing', you utter moron! We are so screwed if this is the best we can do. Re: 66 Months, Out in 5!
It was a solid opportunity for the current Administration to set the tone, I really don't think that was achieved.
Having said that, what does everyone think should have been done? I'd be interested to know. I also promise I won't be replying to the thread and 'discussing' it. |

The real buffon was the guy who did not take Bin Laden when he was handed to the US back years ago. I would have liked to seen a much longer sentence but as people demanded that these guys get their day in court are now complaining about their sentense. You cannot have it both ways.

Re: 66 Months, Out in 5!
RedskinRat, I'm not sure why the judge's "Inshallah" response bothers you?
As for what should have been done, I would have taken the civilian court route. What really bothers me is that we've spend 7 years and millions of dollars to convict a lowly driver in a kangaroo court...and all he got was 66 months....so retarded.

Re: 66 Months, Out in 5!
Stop with the blame game and see the principles of the matter...and the question is what to do with him after he's out.

lol good luck with that. The blame game is always a convenient excuse to skirt around the actual issues.

Re: 66 Months, Out in 5!
Right. I'd admit that as soon as you admit that Bush has been a major F up.
