When you could possibly owe 8.6 million smoking pot might not be the wiser choice for next season. I think this is a beautiful thing. In life smoke pot if ya want to play NFL ball if ya want to, but rules is rules. You sign a contract to play for a team... a HUGE contract to play for a team... you play or smoke weed and pay 8.6 million. Simple and fair. They traded alot for Ricky and he signed the contract. Ricky should tough it out or pay the money back. Retirement is a cheap way out for Ricky. Barry Sanders is ofcourse a different story...

even if he came back right now, he faces a full year of not playing (unless there's some insane appeal)... and if the contract is re-negotiated, you can bet there's going to be clauses to cover flight risks as well as no money for when he doesn't play, and heavy performance incentives... no way the fins would give him the same contract he already has. Not to mention how the locker room is going to react to a guy who ditched them completely, and then came crawling back just for money (and everyone's gonna know he doesn't want to be there)...
before i thought he might have done it to move on to better things... but now i only see a pot-smoking irresponsible whiny b&*%#. what a loser. |

He'd be boo'ed initially, but the boo's will be louder when they go 5-11 without him.

hes not coming back. He spoke with the team yesterday and told them that all the rumors were false and he had no intentions of coming back at this time.
Also, if I remember correctly, its not that he just cant play this year, but also the first five games of next year. Thats a big risk for a team to hvae to take if they want him back. I dont know if thats part of the retirement rules, or a suspension imposed for drug violations.

he retired while on a drug suspension, so he got an automatic extra failed test because of that...

he's not coming back atleast for another 2 years or so. and while I think it sucks with the timing for miami, they shouldn't be going after his incentives, some of which he earned with new orleans. plus he never should have had that stipulation in his contract cuz its not like incentives r always easy to achieve and bonus's r their only guranteed in the nfl and sometimes not even then(ie roster bonuses due a week after u can cut people.)
