Re: Skins Win, Z Shades Are Triumphant
It seems like we should have been doing this forever; like common sense. I wouldn't be suprised to see more teams using this idea.

Re: Skins Win, Z Shades Are Triumphant
Probably if he had the portable ones he would have had to supply the saints with them also.. so now if i was the Skins i would take the version we used this game with us on the road to all games incase we need it.
Quote from Campbell's pass to Moss gives Redskins 29-24 win - NFL - Yahoo! Sports A hot and steamy day—90 degrees at kickoff, hottest in FedEx Field history—prompted Zorn to have sideline personnel hold up canvas sheets to help cool the players. He didn’t want to use a more structured version he invented for practices (known as the “Z-shade”) because NFL rules would have required the Redskins to supply one for the Saints as well. Some Saints players, including TE Jeremy Shockey, used IVs to stay hydrated.

Why can't they have these awnings planted behind the bench? Personally I think it's BS that you have two people holding them up. I mean for God's sake it's meant to help prevent heat stroke.

Re: Skins Win, Z Shades Are Triumphant
he had them hold it as an advantage. as stated in link. and if he had a more structured one like they used in practice, which you are referring to. the redskins would have had to supply one for the saints also. so by having these ppl hold it he was not required to supply the saints one.

I love it. Win at all costs! Although I do hope the "maintenance" guys who had to hold them up for the whole game get a bonus.

Re: Skins Win, Z Shades Are Triumphant
On a steamy day like yesterday I think this made a huge difference. The Saints really seemed worn down at the end and I'm sure their black jerseys didn't help either.

Zorn is an innovative coach, not only in practices but on gameday too!

Re: Skins Win, Z Shades Are Triumphant
AS much as I hate giving credit to the dreaded Cowboys, the reason the visitors sideline is located on that side of the stadium is because for 12pm (CST) games, that is the 'sun' side for the next 3 hours so it's a distinct advantage for the Cowboys to be shaded by the hole in the roof.

Re: Skins Win, Z Shades Are Triumphant
I was at the game and from my POV it looked like they were on stands, I had no idea they had equipment guys holding them up. They did a good job, I think they deserve serious props because that probably helped out in the long run.

Re: Skins Win, Z Shades Are Triumphant
I like how Zorn will do anything to win, regardless if it may seem foolish or out of the ordinary.
A lot of times when a new leader comes into place they sometimes fall into the "we have always done it that way attuide", not Zorn and it is hard to get people over that hump on any level.
