Injury Updates

Latest from the Post:

It is looking increasingly likely that linebacker Mike Barrow will miss the entire preseason with his knee injury and could miss the opening of the regular season against Tampa Bay on Sept. 12. Barrow again missed practice yesterday and has put no timetable on his return. Linebacker LaVar Arrington practiced for the second straight day after missing two games with a knee injury and is participating in more contact drills by the day, making a return for Friday night's game against Atlanta more likely.

Tackle Chris Samuels is no longer wearing a walking cast but his sprained ankle remained taped and he was unable to practice yesterday. He is not expected to play Friday night. Guard Randy Thomas rested yesterday after getting an MRI exam on his neck injury; the MRI showed no structural damage. Thomas said he may be able to play Friday. Offensive lineman Marcus Spriggs missed practice for the second straight day because of a sprained ankle. Should Samuels and Thomas not play Friday, the Redskins would be without three of the six linemen who were projected starters when camp began. Tight end Fred Baxter remains out with a knee injury.

Just rest them all, I would rather have them a little rusty in the opener, than have nagging injuries all season long

I have a bad feeling about Barrow's knee. This might be a nagging injury all season long. He either sucks it up and plays with pain or his career might be nearing an end. How much money is comitted to him in his new contract? I hope this is not another Dave Fiore.

tendonitis my a$$. ugh, my dread was justified. age isn't only about losing speed, its about losing recuperative ability and accumlative wear and tear. i'm not gonna say the "T" name anymore, but i seriously hope Pierce can step up, and that Mitchell doesn't go anywhere...

Add middle linebacker to the list of draft needs next year.

Doesn't anybody have faith in Pierce? He looked promising as a rookie and has since been buried on the depth chart behind our high priced, ho-hum veterans (Trotter, Armstead).

I'm not saying he's the next Ray Lewis, but Williams has had nothing but good things to say about him. I'm looking forward to seeing him get some significant playing time.

Certainly if Pierce steps up and makes everybody forget about Mike Barrow, then that would be great. I'm just saying that I've seen nothing to indicate that he is up for the starting middle linebacker job as of yet. But hey, it would be wonderful if he proves me wrong! Now is the best chance of his career to prove that.

Williams has faith in him, therefore, I do too. A lot of NFL players start out as "no-name back-ups" for a couple years, then step up and make a name for themselves (i.e. Stephen Davis, Priest Holmes, most of the Patriots, etc).
Williams seems to be very high on this guy, so who are we to argue?

I have faith in Pierce. When he came into the league as an undrafted FA, I remember Schottenheimer saying that he was the smartest rookie he had EVER coached. That has always stuck with me about him. After Reading what Williams has been saying, I think Pierce sounds exactly like the kind of player ("Redskins") we want to have and to stick around.

There ya go AdeJFC... if you need a new moniker (and maybe you won't), how about the "Antonio Pierce Fan Club"? Sounds like a winner to me!

Only worry about Pierce is that he is too small to really stuff the run at MLB. I'm not sure I buy that, but it's a worry. But he can do what Williams wants, and that's what matters. SPEED KILLS!

Yeah, I was wondering about Pierce's size, too. Middle linebackers are usually the beefiest of the bunch -- though I'm not sure what Pierce's physical stats are.

wow, he's smaller than John Hall at 6-3, 240. I like Pierce though, he can definitely play
