NYC National Debt Clock runs out of digits

NEW YORK - In a sign of the times, the legendary National Debt Clock in New York City has run out of digits to record the growing debt.

Well, if we apply the same thought to this as we do our national fiscal policy, we'll just buy a bigger clock.

Hopefully the historians have a broader perspective on the complex inner workings of a nation than the "Joe Six-Pack" of today.

This administration sucks, plain and simple - no argument there. But to think you can simply tidy up the mess that is this country in a nice little package and blame it on one guy is a gross oversimplification. The economic and governmental woes go back decades and across party lines.

What an incredibly tiny mind and myopic worldview it must take to conveniently chalk everything up to one guy. Simple minds look for strict one-to-one relationships and leave it at that.

"Bush bad. Bush president. Ergo...all problems are a result of Bush."

Thee branches of government designed with checks and balances in place, tens of thousands of officials and employees at work, and the best someone can come up with is "well this administration sucks."

The intellectual arrogance and shallowness is staggering.

And we'll purchase that clock with imaginary money! And we'll also manage to fund a few pet projects on the side with the money that's set aside for the clock.

Foolproof!

Interesting, tell us what you chalk up to Bush. What part has he played in all of this?

Nothing, Clinton set this in motion years ago.

Dear Republicans. Hope you got all that money you stole from this country invested in gold.

What's sad is the last 8 years, and the best the repubs could spit out is McCain/Palin.

Somewhat agree. This seems more accurate...

What's sad is the last 8 years, and the best the [political party] could spit out is [presidential candidate/vice presidential candidate].

Re: NYC National Debt Clock runs out of digits

my first foray outside of the Skins talk on the board. How can anyone chalk this fact up solely to Bush. Last I checked the House has to initiate EVERY funding bill. I don't think that has changed. And I think it was de Toqueville(spelling ) that said that the US would be a great country until we figured out we could write checks to ourselves(big paraphrase). Well we have been doing that for 45 years and guess what, now we are reaping the rewards.
Has Bush/Republicans contributed, uh yeah. They came in, in the 90's making lots of claims, but the debt still goes on, so the Dems got the House and the debt still goes up. I am very discouraged with the whole political world. Every one who has made it to the national stage has foregone the roots that he grew up in, and has drank the kool-aid that says they are "special".
The US needs to go back to some of its roots, fiscally. And maybe put some sanity back into the decisions, not promises to whatever group you think will get you elected.
So that's my rant, thanks for reading.

I assume you mean both the Executive and Legislative branches, again, the Executive branch can't bring any monetary policy into effect without the legislative branch initiating it. I also figure that these years will be looked at along the line of the 1920's.
The shameful fact is that none of the current politicians really want to bring us back into a sane policy for tax/spending and instead want to take our hard earned money (be it $1 or $1million) put it to the "tyranny of the majority" so that they can stay in power.
And finally also few if any Americans would support the real reduction in Government required to get it under control. ( some specifics examples of what I mean ... reduce the Army (not Navy or AF) to the size needed to protect OUR borders not to exert influence in the area of the day, clinton=Africa/East Europe bush=mideast; reduce governmental welfare to what it was when we were a growing country requiring self sufficiency = near zero;
etc.)

Not everyone can be an expert on everything. This message board is for the knowledgeable Redskins fan, when it comes to other topics some people just don't ever get it. This isn't a bad thing really, it's just what it is. Don't ask me to contribute greatly to any thread on how to fix computers because I don't know the first thing about it, don't pay attention to dmek's posts in political threads because it's just not his forte.

There are very few problems that can be blamed on a single administration. Several of Bush's policies certainly didn't make things better but he is not the root cause of every mess.

History will probably not look too favorably upon the entire scope of Bush's administration...unless Obama turns out to be another Jimmy Carter.
