Rfk 2
Pretty exciting talk! I think everyone here would love to see it happen. Hopefully within the next 5 years?

Re: Rfk 2
I guess this is one thing a young Mayor brings with him. I dont think DC has any term restrictions on Mayors so as long as he can keep office maybe this will be somthing he continues to push for.

Re: Rfk 2
They've been talking about this for a while now. While the Skins own the stadium, I believe they have a land lease with Maryland that is extensive, and would be quite expensive to get out of. It also doesn't hurt that this talk comes up when the Skins are 4-1 and on a roll right now...

RFK Memorial Stadium, or Gibbs Field. I think it's hella fitting. Joe Gibbs needs to be enshrined.

Re: Rfk 2
i never heard about him building another stadium but i did hear about him thinking of putting a roof on fed ex field to host a superbowl. i hope that the new stadium has a retracktable roof on it.i hate to think of the skins home games being inside all the time.

It may not be the direct result of, but I think it bring renewed importance to the issue

Im thinking they want to try to get a bowl game too. I dont know how possible that is though. The fact it says DC would try to work somehting out so we could use the land for free, and there is likely some good appreaciation of the Landover land value, i think makes it a real possability. |

I thought(i could totally be wrong) that Fenty basically got elected, and ran Tony Williams out of town, based on the platform that DC shouldn't have paid so much for the baseball stadium? This will certainly cost way more. |

Re: Rfk 2
It's inevitable that the Danny will build a new mega stadium with a retractable roof at some point in the future.

Re: Rfk 2
no disrespect to the nationals, but i would have tried and built the redskins a new stadium
with a roof than a new stadium just for the nationals.the redskins are the life blood of dc, all the other pro sports teams are way,way back when it comes to being the most popular team from there.the nationals are gonna stink for eternity 10 years,so are the wizards and they don't sell out years in advance like the skins do. |

The Nationals just need to put a good product on the field...decent product on the field. I went to a Nats game this year and enjoyed it. It's a good area, close to the metro, hotels and it looks like there's alot of development in that specific area. They just need to start winning some games. They need to be on a 4-5 year plan. |

Re: Rfk 2
The Lerners will start to open their wallets here soon. Stan Kasten is no dummy when it comes to building franchises, and that stadium will be full once they turn it around.
As far as the city is concerned, I really don't see them forking over money to help build the stadium...providing the land is one thing, but it won't be Nationals Park Part Deux.

Re: Rfk 2
I think a big difference from the Nationals vs the Redskins is that DC had no baseball team before so it needed a much greater corrdinated effort to get a team here. You have to have city and initial tax payer support to get a new team.
Moving team back from a few miles away is different. Its more that the Redskins are allready making money could they make more via a new city stadium. Plus a owner that wants them back where they belong is good. And the city would greatly benefit. |
