Final pre-season game rant

As expected, in most of the final preseason games that were played last night, very few starters saw any significant time. I realize that the coaches are trying to avoid injury and rest up their players for the first game of the regular season... but doesn't the NFL feel obligated to put out a quality product when they're still charging the fans full price for a ticket?

This is telling me that the pre-season is one game too long and that the final game isn't being used by the teams for it's intended purpose, to actually prepare the teams for the regular season. The coaches consider it a nuisance and it should be done away with.

Now don't get me started on the final game of the regular season...

If they went to three games then all the players would play two games and see limitied action in the third just like now. I think it more of a mental issue that the coaches have about using players right before it really matters. Plus they want to get a lot of game action for the youngsters who are fighting to make the team. I would imagine most coaches want to give the young guys a fair chance to make the squad and its tough to do if they are putting all the vet starters in for three or four quarters. They'd never figure out who the quality backups are. Oh...and as long as people pay for the tickets this won't change anyways.

I agree if not for the preseason alot of no named players woulod never get a chance. Like Stephen Davis, Lavernce Coles, ect... ect... You need the preseaon to find young undiscovered talent.

My feeling is either play the starters full game or play them the normal 1 series and charge me half price on my preseason ticket. Only problem with being a season ticket holder is you still pay the same price to watch 2nd and 3rd stringers play. And is has no bearing on the plyaoffs or standings.

I live in Connecticut... but I have been on the waiting list for a while.

Yup. I hate paying full price for the exh. games. I probably wouldn't mind being forced to buy'em if I wasn't paying full price.

My point is that everyone on that waiting list would gladly pay full price for the pre-season games so the price is clearly fair-market. I'd bet teams could charge MORE for pre-season games and still sell their tickets. I am just a very capitalistic type guy and realize that they charge full price becasue they can. It does suck to have to buy the pre-season tickets at all but I would look at it like the price for everything was the price for the 8 games that matter. The other extra games are just sorta there. I am on the waiting list also but I just get scalped tickets to most games. If you do it right you can get tickets at face value or cheaper and never worry about the crap exhibitions.

But wouldn't you agree that whoever is being held out of the final preseason game has a lock on the roster anyway? Hence, the scrubs who are playing tonight have virtually no chance of making the squad and are purely filler just so the coaches can field a team. Granted, there are a few exceptions with certain players who are fighting it out until the very end to make it past the final cuts. But by and large, this is as meaning less as it gets.

I agree with your final point though. As long as fans still show up for preseason games, and as long as the ratings are good, nothing will change.

these games are for weeding out talent...and with them we have found some diamonds in the rough. i do agree that they shouldn't charge full ticket price for the games.

The Reasons the preseason games suck, arent really who's on the feild in my opinion. Its the overall feeling of watching the game. When I watch the Skins' play preseason, I pretty much just sit and watch and if somthing good or bad happens, i'm just like "Cool, whatever its only preaseason."

When you watch a regular season game, your going nuts. I live and die by each first down and thats why I love watching football so much. Thats what In my opinon , makes the regular season differ from the preseason, just the feel of the game.

Its not quite the same thing but would you also say if the Star QB was taken out for the season or late in a season when a team is 4-9 playing for nothing should a team still charge full price for its games?

Yeah, but people dont ussually buy their tickets the day of the game, but time in advance. Ya know? I dont know , I was just saying why I perfer regular season , not for the players, but the feel.
