Burying the Hatchet on our Defense

I've figured out, in my own point of view/opinion, that there is just 2 different points of view on what a "good" defense is. Or what defense people would rather have.

It goes like this...

Question... Which defense is better?

TEAM A:
* 284.1 yards per game allowed (4th in NFL)
* 93.7 rush yards allowed (8th in NFL)
* 190.5 pass yards allowed (6th in NFL)
* 17.9 Points per Game allowed (4th in NFL)
but...
* 17 takeaways (2nd FEWEST in NFL)
* 23 sacks (4the FEWEST in NFL)

or

TEAM B:
* 330.1 yards per game (17th in NFL)
* 92.8 rush yds allowed (7th in NFL)
* 237.3 pass yds allowed (29th in NFL)
* 23.9 Points per Game allowed (22nd in NFL)
but...
* 29 takeaways (3rd MOST in the NFL)
* 40 sacks (6th MOST in NFL)

I'm sure you all can assert...
"TEAM A" is the Redskins.
"TEAM B" is the New York Jets.

Now... I just simply support our defense as being plenty good enough to not knock because I value yards allowed/points allowed. If this is simple-minded logic, then I am owning up to it now. I really do feel that if our defense holds opponents to under 20 points regularly (no matter how boring), we are truly setting up our team to have success (as 23 of 32 teams average more than 20 points per game) as our offense should be equally accountable for carrying their own weight.

With that said... if other people value sacks, takeaways, etc. there is nothing wrong with that. It means that you like putting pressure on the opposing team, causing them to make mistakes, turn the ball over, and set up our offense, which helps them out and that makes perfect sense.

I was going to use the Chiefs (30th or lower in all major defensive categories, but 3rd most takeaways) or Seahawks (again, bottom 5 in most all major defensive stats, but 10th in sacks) but the fact that these two teams aren't top 10 in BOTH sacks and takeaways would take away from the objectivity I am trying to convey.

Now hopefully, some people can understand that there are just two ways of seeing/valuing our defense and that there is no RIGHT or WRONG, SMART and DUMB when it comes to the subject.

As Matty said, people are testy when it comes to our defense (me included...lol) and I just wanted to bury the hatchet in midst of the holiday season.

By the way... Happy Holidays to All.

I locked the other thread for a reason, let it die.
