AP Picks Mayo as Defensive Rookie of the Year

Chris Horton is not even mentioned!!!!

Here is the link.

Patriots' Mayo wins AP Defensive Rookie award - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Mayo, with the Patriots received 49 of the 50 votes. The other vote went to the Bengals Keith Rivers.

TALE OF THE STATS

Mayo stats - 128 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, 0 sacks
Rivers stats - 37 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, 0 sacks.
Chris Horton stats - 76 tackles, 3 interceptions, 1 sack.

Am I wrong or are Chris' stats at least comprable (better in my opinion) to Mayo's and do they not blow away Rivers'?

It should have atleast been a close vote but not to be mentioned/considered after his play this year is another slight not only to him but the Redskins as an orginaztion.

Does the NFL makes its own picks on these year ending awards as well?

Kinda hard to understand why Rivers got a vote.

I agree 100%. I can see Horton not getting any love since he was dinged up and didn't get much press towards the latter half of the season, but Rivers is a complete mystery to me. He got hurt pretty early on and that was that.

Yeah, he played in like 7 games and averaged about 6 tackles per. Not exactly killing it. Plus he had his jaw broken by a WR (H.Ward) who's about half his size. He should get negative votes for that.

Rivers must have a family member or close friend that had a vote for the AP.

Apparently he did because it doesn't make any sense.

Seriously, the more I think about it, why the hell didn't Horton get a vote and Rivers did?!?! This really annoys and confuses me!
What other rookies made much of an impact on defense? I know I'm biased towards Horton, but I can't really think of anyone else.

bottom line, Mayo deserved it...who cares if Horton didn't get a vote- maybe he'll use it as motivation (like fletcher)- keep'em hungry

I have to agree with this. Chris had a heckuva year, but he wasn't the best DROY out there, so who really cares how many votes he got?

I don't think this kid is the type to need extra motivation. He's hungry from the word "go.'

christ i've even seen Kenny Phillips have a better year than Rivers.

AP Poll is a joke regardless if Mayo deserves it or not.
