42 Feet huh...that is almost half the distance between bases. That's one hell of a lead off.

Think of how many snake sushi rolls you can make out of that sucker. Hmmm, yummmy. I'm guessing it can ingest Shaq and still move.

Jon Voigt was right when he tried to warn us! Too bad no one listened.

Some men's fossilized mammoth snake remains are longer than others.

Re: Fossilized remains of mammoth snake discovered

Is anyone else disappointed there isn't really a picture of the fossils or just a generalized idea of how big it really was. I mean I can get a general idea but I'd like to see just how huge around it was, not just the length.

I actually like snakes but the idea of that snake being alive and well today just scares me.

Re: Fossilized remains of mammoth snake discovered

I was out hiking around the Big Cypress forests last year (adjacent to the Everglades). I stopped to talk to a Park ranger. We started talking snakes and he told me non-native species were getting to be common place and.....a problem. He elaborated that people had released so many unwanted pet Anaconcda's and Boa's, they were beginning to reproduce in the wild and reaching...disturbing size. Florida is enough like their home turf, they should thrive.
I love to backpack around Florida, and I find THAT fact.........disturbing. The thought of having to deal with an 88 foot Ananconda mano a mano ain't great

Re: Fossilized remains of mammoth snake discovered

Interesting timing.
The local news here carried a story last night that that the Boa's, Anaconda's, and other LARGE exotics are getting to be a serious concern to Parks and Wildlife. They are trying to devise a plan as these big snakes have no predators and are reproducing in the Everglades and surrounding preserve area's at an .....alarming rate.

To avoid 'giant python in Everglades,' lawmaker working to ban import, trade
