Post Your Draft Board
Preferably players we're expected to look at for the 13th pick but you're free to include other positions like CB and S. Anyway heres mine as of today. For those who don't know what a draft board it's a tool that Vinny uses to justify taking 3 pass catchers in the second round. Just kidding, it's really a tool that scouts use to evaluate players from a pure talent perspective. So basically do you think that Prospect A is a better LB then Prospect B is a Tackle or vice-versa.
1st Tier 1. Andre Smith - OT - Alabama - He can play LT but will be an elite RT in this league. He used to be considered top 5 for a reason. It's the usual combine politics that have dropped him so far. 2. Rey Maualuga - LB - USC - Relelentless. Don't know about his OLB prospects but worse case we'd have our replacement for Fletcher. On top of that I think he's going to be better then Lofu Tatupu. 3. Alex Mack - C - Cal - From a pure talent perspective Mack is among the best at what he does. However the fact that Centers are undervalued means Mack will not hear his name called for a while. Might be better then my personal favorite center prospect Ryan Kalil from the 2007 draft.2nd Tier 4. Knowshon Moreno - RB - UGA- Clinton Portis is starting to show his wear and tear and I'm not to comfortable about Betts unless he's starting full time as he needs a few carries to get going. If we could add a free agent RT then I would have few objections about adding Knowshon, but fixing the problems at RT might be all we need to get the running game bakc on track. 5. Brian Orakpo - DE/LB - Texas - He's a very interesting prospect that deserves consideration and as the Giants say "you can never have to many D-lineman" He barely seems to be capable though of having the size to play LDE. 6. Michael Johnson - DE - Georgia Tech - I'm moving Johnson into my board now as the kid really is a freak of nature. Had he had 13 or 14 sacks this year he would have ended up being a sure fire top 3 pick. Still 9 sacks is by no means a bad year. Apparently the guy has the same type of frame as last years DE prospect Calias Campbell (Miami) and granted we were considering taking him as a LE I think we owe it to ourselves to give Johnson a long hard look. Either way he has the potential to be a sack artist in this league and the fact that we can get him on a trade down might be to much to pass up.3rd Tier 7. James Laurinaitis- LB - Ohio State - He's a little on the smaller side, but he's a mean SOB. Explosive, gets after the run, rushes the passer. Just a football player. Would also give us Fletchers successor, a need that is more important then most people are letting on. 8. Lesean McCoy - RB - Pitt - Explosive running back that actually reminds me a little of Portis coming out of Miami. Same problem though in that both players have a pretty small frame. 9. Michael Oher - OT - Ole Miss - A personal favorite. Would be extremely relieved if we traded down and picked him up, but I keep getting a feeling that the front office will consider him a reach even in the late 1st round. 10. Tyson Jackson - DE - LSU - Even though we got Haynesworth the fact remains that we don't have that big body LDE right now that can anchor the left side on running plays. Evans might come back to us but right now I'd be willing to bet that he signs in New Orleans.4th Tier 11. Brian Cushing - LB - USC- Can anyone tell me why Scout has Clay Matthews ranked highter then Cush at this point? Either way he plays hard and can rush the passer. Durability issues though should be a huge concern. 12. Peria Jerry - DT - Ole Miss - Doubt we even consider him with Haynesworth on board but he can get after the passer and stop the run or as I sometimes mistakenly type it 'stop the fun.' Ironic how it kind of ends up being true.

Re: Post Your Draft Board
1.) Andre Smith-OT-#1 OT Pre-combine, Would be a steal at 13.
2.) Rey Maualuga-LB-Guy is a freaking machine, finally a LB who can cover. 3.) Brian Orakpo- DE/LB- Can play DE so Taylor can move to LB or vice versa 4.) DJ Moore-CB- Springs replacement, would play the nickle this year. Possible Rogers replacement?? 5.) Knowshon Moreno-RB- Would be a great compliment to Portis, but i bet we still stick with shitty Betts. 6.) Eben Britton-OT- Great player for RT 7.) Alex Mack- C- Anyone else sick of Rabachs play ,primarily in the red zone. False start, False start!!! 8.) Trade the pick!!!!

Thanks, though even though I give Vinny s**t for his draft board fiasco last year the fact remains that Scout.com gave both Thomas and Kelly +90 grades so it's not like Vinny was the only one. . Still I definitely think we should have at least added one lineman with those three picks but hopefully it'll end up working out. Jeremy Zutah I think would have been a great fit here

Re: Post Your Draft Board
I will go ahead and say I'm not a huge "Draft Guy" in terms of players, I'll kind of see who everyone ends up talking about come April and decide who I want than...but I know the positions I want addressed:
- Offensive Line ( Tackle #1 for right side, another Guard) - Outside Linebacker -Defensive End - Quick, Speedy Runningback.

Re: Post Your Draft Board
my draft board would start with any random fallers (though there's maybe a 1% of that happening).
that's freak drops for guys like curry, crabtree, monroe etc that won't actually happen. after that I tend to believe RB, LBs, C, and most OGs are places where 2nd round picks will get you good starters at tiny contracts. the 1st round is the best place to get franchise QBs, LTs, pass rushing DEs, and stud DTs. DTs are the safest bet, followed by OTs. I wouldn't take mack, jerry, or lauranitis unless we trade down to the 20s at least. at LB i like rey and lauranitis, though both are probably too slow to work the seem effectively in a cover 2 defense. I think lauranitis is a better value even if his upside is a little lower, since you could trade down and still get him. at OL - any of the top tackles would be good, but I rather trade out of 13 for a pick (with say, the lions) if A smith was there. we need to come out with a guy to play now, and a higher bust % play at a spot we don't have a starter at is a bit risky. trading into the second could get you a duke robinson, sean smith, or maybe even max unger (if he falls slightly). at 13, the best picks would be oher or orakpo, followed by rey or trading down. I don't think we're looking at RBs, this is a bad class for them, and we've got soo much money tied up in portis right now (and we can't cut him any time soon either). the problem last year was the OL, not portis. we'd be better off (imo) going oher (if he's there). |

Re: Post Your Draft Board
hey G, wouldn't another DT be overkill? rey over orakpo? mack at 12?
just asking . i think i'd shy away a little from jenkins due to speed concerns, but i can see why raji (if he slips to us) would be a fairly easy take... i'd rather have crabtree if we're talking about crazy draft falls though. |

Re: Post Your Draft Board
Updated draft board complete with pretty colors. I've also divided the players up into tier's as I think taking a player purely because he's one number higher on a draft board is ascenine. So for example if Knowshon Moreno and Michael Johnson are available when we pick (a Bulldog and a Yellow Jacket) the advantage would go to what we need more.
Anyway I'd like to see more draft boards so lets go, get them up.
