Munching the Redskins Draft: A. Smith, Oher, and Cushing lead
http://dcprosportsreport.com/2009/03/munching-the-redskins-draft-a-smith-and-oher-lead.html
Given all the updates that are coming in, we decided to take a snap shot of what the mock drafts are projecting the Washington Redskins to do at #13. No Mocks are considering trades for the Redskins yet. Some mock will put trades in as we get close to the Draft. The Mock Drafts that have been munched are ones that have been updated from FEB 28th through Today, a total of 134 Mocks Munched! Let's start with what positions mocks are projecting for the Redskins. Plus, don't forget to cast your vote in the poll! The poll does not include an other. It is based on the top 4 projections.

How about adding an "other player" category?

We didn't add it because we want the votes to be base don top projections at the moment. In other words, if this is the Redskins had to choose from, then who would it be.

I would love to take a DE to take advantage of Haynesworth's impact.Orapko or Brown would be great.

Re: Munching the Redskins Draft: A. Smith, Oher, and Cushing lead
We have 247 of them. The 134 updated in March only has 1 Orakpo and Mauluaga has 3. Orakpo is down to only 1 projection because he likely won't be around at #13. Most mocks and not just mocks by NFL draft analysts fully believe that Orakpo is going 5th overall. Maualuga woudl liekly be gone as well by $13, at least I hope so. We need a DE not a LB.

Re: Munching the Redskins Draft: A. Smith, Oher, and Cushing lead
I doubt Oher falls to 13. Hard to say w/ Smith but I'm still on the fence w/ this guy... it's day to day i guess
Meanwhile, Rey is looking likely to still be on the board so I thought I'd share analysis from NFL.com: Positives: Good initial quickness off the snap. ... Quickly gets to top speed, flashing rare downhill explosiveness for the position. ... Reads the action quickly. ... Willing to take on blocks and has the strength and hand technique to shed quickly. ... Good lateral quickness to evade blockers and has the speed to beat backs to the flanks. ... Gets good depth on his pass drop and is quick to close on the ball. ... Punishing hitter with four career forced fumbles. ... Productive pass rusher with the speed to close on even mobile quarterbacks. ... Can break down in space to make the secure open-field tackle. Negatives: Has a tendency to overpursue, opening holes in the defense for quick and savvy ballcarriers to exploit. ... Too often relies on his explosive hitting to knock down ballcarriers, rather than wrapping up to make secure tackles. He's got the skill to cover and rush the passer!!! Sounds like he may be the short term upgrade at OLB we need today and the monster MLB we'll need just around the corner Say what, how are people not excited about this kid like I am?

orakpo and rey are studs... curry and raji probably are too, but our chances of getting/taking them are 0, so i haven't bothered looking at film on them or anything.
if its rey or gambling on smith... it's rey 10/10 times. |

Really? I don't know if Rey is a goner for sure. The first team that desperately could use his services is Denver, but who knows what that FO will do. Also haven't we hear our FO has been impressed w/ the USC LB corp?

I would trade down and get more picks. Maualuga is the least risky but he's still a risk at 13.

Re: Munching the Redskins Draft: A. Smith, Oher, and Cushing lead
Im with you Goat, i'd love to have Rey, or Orakpo would be nice.. (I think) If we can't get either I'd like Oher, And none of those..Then I'd like to trade down. At that point, the best OL player available. Then best PLAYER with the picks we trade down for!! Yes, I said best player. At that point, (hopefully rd 2), I think we may be able to pick up a playmaker at a varity of positions to help this team. Then adress depth in lb, de, ol...

Re: Munching the Redskins Draft: A. Smith, Oher, and Cushing lead
I'm really starting to like Eben Britton, in part because we can trade down a few picks and still get him. Still I think he might end up being the best tackle in the class. He's durable, big, and super smart. The only thing he needs to work on his run blocking but in a system that emphasizes quick cuts and outside running his finesse style should fit perfectly.
However after hearing Vinny talking about Andre Smith being a top 2 pick before the combine I have a feeling that Smith will be near the top of our draft board if he's there at 13. Vinny loves those value picks and seems to trust his pre-combine evaluations more then his post-combine evaluations. Hence Malcolm Kelly getting a first round grade.
