Digital book reader

The news of Sony teaming up with Google to provide over 500,000 public domain books has me thinking of getting a Sony Reader. I know there's Kindle too, anyone have one of these things? Any thoughts on these digital book readers?

Re: Digital book reader

This is awesome news...I've been thinking about getting a Kindle 2 but at $360 plus the price of books I've been holding out.

Re: Digital book reader

Had a kindle and sold it. To me part of reading a book is the actual book the feel of it the look etc...

Holding the Kindle was weird also.

There are so many great books out there and they are free at your local libary just sign up for the waiting list.

My aunt is also a big reader and she loves the kindle, so each is own.

Yeah I was thinking of the Kindle too but this news has me thinking Sony now. Plus it's cheaper.

Re: Digital book reader

This is interesting

AFP: Discovery sues Amazon's Kindle

I've wanted a Kindle for a couple of years because I love to read, but really it would have only made sense if I took the train into work. When I'm sitting at home reading, to mredskins point, there's something about the feel of an actual book.

Plus, my wife said all the people she sees using Kindles on the train are senior citizens so she thinks it's for old people (but that's just her opinion, of course)

Re: Digital book reader

Also, the kindle is not backlite. you may say for $350 I can't read it in the dark? The thing is the screen has the same "feel" as reading paper has to your eyes. You really have to experience it but apparently a backlight screen when trying to read a novel will give you a headache or strain your eyes. This was a plus for me but I still ended up selling it.

It is a cool toll for the right person, espically if you want to read a bunch of diffrent news papers but cnn.com works fine for me.

OH YEAH! And a download of a book is the same damn price as the actual book, what the F!

No doubt. I like tech stuff as much as anyone, but I don't see myself ever using Kindle or anything like it. I really enjoy reading as well, and I'll take an actual book over a screen any day.

Re: Digital book reader

Those prices aren't up to date. You can get the Sony for $299 now.

Re: Digital book reader

Google, a fan of open source (well other than their search algorithms), teams up with a company that insists on their own proprietary technologies.. interesting

I'd eventually like to get a reader myself, but I haven't been a fan of any of them so far
