Daniels agrees to 1 year vet min deal
Daniels called the Redskins yesterday and agreed to terms on a one-year, veteran-minimum deal, according to a league source.
"I'm coming back. I just talked to all the guys," Daniels said by telephone yesterday. "I'll probably end up signing today or tomorrow, but I'm definitely coming back." washingtonpost.com |

He signed for vet minimum. Granted, he probably won't see the field -- but I don't consider this a bad signing at all.

Re: Daniels agrees to 1 year vet min deal
Other then not getting young on defense we have basically shored up all of our D-line issues (unless AH gets hurt) Our only issue on D now is OLB and maybe a late round CB right? Most of our issues are on Offense, meaning we need a RT, G, and a C. Perhaps a RB late in the rounds but we have picked up two talented speed RB's in Dorsey and Aldridge. So in later rounds if we wanted to play with drafting a tall solidly built WR perhaps to groom to be a possession WR might be nice. I would love to see us pick up Tate if available which he probably won't be but there was a 6'-6" or 6'-7" WR that might be good to look at in later rounds. Draft mags are saying he does not have break away speed, but is a good possession WR who will win the jump ball. How nice it would be to have three young WR's for our future.

Re: Daniels agrees to 1 year vet min deal
I'd say right now he's penciled in as a starter.

I'd bet on it. He didn't come back here to sit on the bench. He can still play and he's the best run stopper we have at DE.

Re: Daniels agrees to 1 year vet min deal
I would think he's the favorite to start IF he's fully recovered & didn't lose much from the injury. At first I though Daseal's post was extreme, but as I think about it, Daniels could still very easily be cut by the end of camp. He's 36 & coming off a bad injury.
Any of our DEs could be cut by the end of camp w/the exception of AC. Its a potentially crowded, but not deep position. If we get a decent DE in the draft or an udfa they'll have to decide whether to keep 2 guys w/roughly the same ability - Wynn & Daniels - or cut one of the speed rushing 'project' guys - Jackson or Buzbee. Or maybe Wilson will be the odd man out. He didn't get much pt under Blache & really didn't have much of a season, other than on spec. teams. HOw many de's did they keep last year? |

Re: Daniels agrees to 1 year vet min deal
Unless we draft someone I can't see Daniels getting cut, unless of course he's just not healthy enough but that shouldn't be an issue. Who is going to beat him out? Wynn?

Re: Daniels agrees to 1 year vet min deal
Good signing, good deal. He's respected and liked on the team; he provides valuable leadership in the locker room and tutorage to the young guys. It would be a nice if he could pressure a quarterback once in a while, but beggars can't be choosers. Fact is, he's hard, he's tough, he's a role player. Good signing.

Re: Daniels agrees to 1 year vet min deal
Matty, I agree he's penciled in as a starter -- I just don't see him making it through training camp healthy enough to start.

Re: Daniels agrees to 1 year vet min deal
I agree with this move too. With Brandon Jacobs out there, I like to have a D line with some heft to it. Running into a line with Haynesworth, Griffin, and Daniels on it would have to hurt.
