OM FIELD: Is Jay Cutler Worth the Risk?
Is Jay Cutler Worth the Risk?
April 2, 2009 According to multiple sources, the Redskins are actively pursuing a trade for Denver QB Jay Cutler. Yesterday at this time I thought that rumor was off the table and had moved on to other things–the draft, preseason schedule, being just days away from sleeping with the windows open for the two weeks Spring lasts in the D.C. area. As of last night however, the rumor was not only back on the table, but a flashing neon centerpiece. So at the risk of publishing while the news cycle is still spinning and having this all rendered moot before the pixels dry ... Thoughts and observations, shotgun-style: Effect on Jason Campbell Count on Campbell and/or his agent being on the phone to Cerrato since last night trying to find out whether the buzz has merit. If the Redskins are seriously pursuing Cutler, they have two choices in how to respond: they can lie to his face, or tell him the truth. The former becomes a problem only if the Cutler deal doesn’t materialize and word filters back to Campbell that the Redskins were in fact trying to make the deal. The latter—telling him the truth—would put Campbell in the unenviable and difficult position of knowing his team has lost faith in him. Sound familiar? Effect in the Locker Room To hear tell, Jason Campbell is popular with and has the confidence of his teammates. So in trying to decide if they should bring in Jay Cutler, the team may or may not want to poll the team leaders in the locker room ... Re: OM FIELD: Is Jay Cutler Worth the Risk?
Part of knowns that this is going to cost a lot to get Cutler but is the cost to much? As for Campbell I am not sold that he will be better then he has been. Do I ever think Campbell will win a Super Bowl my best guess is no. He takes one step forward and two steps back each season. Still would have love to see Him with Holt at WR and a strong vet RT really know if he has what it takes! But we over payed on two players and now we have big holes at RT,OLB and DE. If it wasn't for those needs trading that 1st round pick in this draft would not be that big a thing to get Cutler. Look at our draft a year ago our best player may have been Horton in the 7th round. So to go after Cutler is a real unknown because the cost may be to much and kill what little we have in draft picks to fill hole and needs.

Re: OM FIELD: Is Jay Cutler Worth the Risk?
I would be very unhappy if Cutler came to D.C. Right now we have much more pressing needs and it would be a terrible idea to sacrifice them in order to get a marginally better quarterback. I also think Cutler is an off-the-field liability; he's full of himself, and that does not make good chemistry with the rest of the team. I think Jason Campbell deserves one more year to show us he's the guy, and I think if we upgrade at RT and give him another legitimate receiving threat downfield, he does just fine.
The only thing Jay Cutler may have over Campbell is his out-of-the-pocket ability to throw the ball. He's quoted saying he learned to throw on the run at Vanderbilt (my alma mater), because his o-line was so bad haha. The redskins o-line might not be THAT bad, but it's still shaky enough that having a quarterback with those skills might be important. But that comment also reflects his arrogance.. Bottom line - he's got skills, and probably would be an improvement over campbell, but I like campbell, and I think addressing the needs we already have is a much higher priority. Plus I think Cutler is a whiny b**** |

You, like many others on this board, called him Culter
I almost believe that was on purpose, but I would've preferred seeing Cult Brennan listed in that manner fix your link homey |

ESPN, more specifically Trent Dilfer, saying that Zorn would be able to harness him well and create boundaries for him... how much do we want to put him on a leash though if we get him?

Seriously, I don't think any of us want to hear from him until he starts answering some questions

Re: OM FIELD: Is Jay Cutler Worth the Risk?
Maybe it's a smoke screen to get other teams higher than the Redskins to jump into a top ten pick so that the Redskins would have a better chance at getting an elite OT to fall their way at 13th...hmmmm?
