I remember that Green near-trade like it was yesterday. I thought he was gone for sure. And I think that upcoming season he ended up missing half the year with a broken arm

What is it with the Redskins fascination of perpetually trading with Denver? Do the Broncos offer the best compensation, or are they just smitten with players in an orange and blue uniform?

I can't believe they almost traded away DG, especially before Marty arrived.

Re: The biggest Redskins deals that were never made!?

I was in the car yesterday on the way to a meeting, listening to Doc Walker/Kevin Sheehan do the "Locker Room" on 980AM . It was the Champions Luncheon at Morton's on Connecticut Ave, and Theisman was the guest.

Anyway, he was telling a story about Joe Gibbs' first year in DC -1981. The Skins started 0-5 of course, and apparently Theisman could tell Gibbs wasn't sold on him - he said he could tell Gibbs was just kind of distant and not into him as the QB. According to Theisman, right around week 6 the Skins began talks with the Lions about a trade involving Eric Hipple, their QB. But then Hipple went out and threw for like 300 yards and 4 TDs against the Bears the following game, and Detroit backed out of the trade talks. Lucky us.

Looking at the dates of those deals, the Broncos were an AFC Powerhouse at the time...plus the adage that you would face them once every 3 years or so meant that you could trade and not be bitten in the arse right away. Either that or Pat Bowlen is pretty easy to deal with.

Interesting article, I initially thought this was another anti-FO rant thread.

Elway as a Skin would have been very interesting. Gotta wonder where he would have taken us.

They did, for C. Portis in 2004. And they threw in a 2nd round pick!

I know, I know, a lot of you are going to say Bailey isn't the best ever, but honestly I'd put him in that conversation. He's better than D.Green IMO. I remember all of Green's career though, a great player & one of my favorites. Sounds like that trade made more sense than the Bailey one did. Champ in his prime was a true shut down corner.

Not tryin to rehash the champ/portis trade, cause CP has had quite a good 5 years here, but if that deal wasn't made you'd have to put it in this list.
