F.... Back Pain

The worst pain in my book is tooth pain but back is a close second. Something is up with my lower back and it really sucks. I am 35 and I think I am just getting old. MAybe I am lifting wrong or something. I am not overweight and I go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week, decent muscle tone. I am wondering if it is my kidneys?? Which I pray it is not.

I guess it is time to see a doctor, grrrrr....

My wife will go to the doctors at the drop of a hat but us guys we always seem to wait to see if it will possibly fix itself. I wonder why we do that.

Lazy people like myself never seem to have these problems. My advice to you is to stop going to the gym. Avoid physical activity if you can. Walking back and forth to the refrigerator and spending quality time with the wife are the exceptions. You're already in shape right?

If you really want exercise / back problems plant a garden. Your back and everything else will be sore, but at least you'll have something to eat. You can work for a little while and then take the Winter off.

That's what I do. I'm sore sometimes but I sure do have plenty of tomato sandwiches to go around and fresh tomato sauce never tasted so good.

Re: F.... Back Pain

Hope you feel better. Back pain sucks bad, because no matter how you move you use your back.

Although, I had gall bladder surgery a few months back and the pain from when your gall bladder is shot is pretty bad too.

35 too and have had the DDD (degenerative disk disease) for about 10yrs+ now and scoliosis. I feel about 80 years old many days. The doc said my back xrays looked like one of an old man. It sucks but alot of people have it. Get it checked out.

There was a thead on here a few years ago w/ some good recommendations.

Back pain is a mystery to to doctors also. I hear people doing a whole bunch of crazy stuff that never works. I am hoping it just goes away but unlikely.

Back pain is the worst with a 2nd place nod to the ribs. I had cracked ribs once and every laugh, sneeze, or slight movement had me in agony.

Has it been coming on for a while, or new pain (came on in the past few days)? Dull or sharp pain?
I have a bad back, I have 2 really bad compressed disks, and 1 marginally bad one (degenerative condition), plus a lumbar that is twisted slightly out of place, something I was born with. When I do things wrong, it tweeks and pinches a nerve. It wouldn't "feel" like a nerve pinch, it just feels like pain, with a seemingly weakness in the area. My MRI revealed that surgery might just make the pain worse and I need to wait until I blow a disk before I should get surgery.
In short, if it's pain that has been there for a while, you need to go to the doctor. You have something wrong that needs professional attention. If it's new pain, I can suggest a few things. 1- give it time to rest, a pinched nerve will not get better unless you let it rest. Keep pinching it, it keeps hurting. 2- Get some massages. Head to toe. This could help relieve A LOT of pain. 3- Stretch your legs a lot. The tension in your hammys etc could be pulling on your lower back. 4- drink a TON of water (only if you don't already). Shoot for 75 oz or more a day. Not coffee, not colas, actual pure water. If it is your kidneys, they will flush. If it's kidney stones, they will flush as well (assuming they are small enough). 5- if you are taking any kind of "supplement" to aid in weight loss, or muscle growth, you may want to stop taking it.

Get with a "competant" personal trainer for a session or two for some "core strengthening" exercises, focusing on the spinal area. It has done me a world of good for fixing and preventing some nagging injuries. It's worth the few bucks it will cost before you open up the medical can o' worms.
good luck

Re: F.... Back Pain

This is another area where science and medicine have failed miserably. They can shove a pig artery in your chest, no problemo, but if you tweak your back helping a neighbor move, they have nothing. Opiates and a lot of quackery. And yet we continue to treat these people as though they were living gods among us.

And the problem would be...?

I've had both what Matty mentioned, major back damage/broken and cracked ribs. Both REALLY SUCK,I'm not sure I can say one is worse than the other depends on how bad and where. Can't do a thing for ribs....yea tapem up... fart and your still in agony. Thank you LORD for great surgeons for back work, do your homework on finding a GREAT Dr. in the field of Spine specialty/Neurosurgeon with a great reputation and success rate.

If you hurt long enough and bad enough and all else fails you will welcome surgery. 35 your just a kid....but good luck, wait until you start getting old boy your in trouble!

Yeah anything structual in your center body gets a big 10 on the Suck Scale. It doesn't feel good to be awake basically and going to sleep is a chore in itself.

Keep your lower back straight when lifting.

Oh man ribs hurt like hell. Just a hairline crack made me not want to breath till it healed.

Per the back pain...dude u should go to the doctor. Not going to scare you w/ specifics but lower back pain can be a symptom of serious health issues. Get checked out for the peace of mind at least...and then just stretch more. I have a terrible back, several family members have already had back surgery but stretching every day, sometimes twice, has kept me out of the operating room. There are tons of stretch books out there...basically all show similar routines.

Re: F.... Back Pain

Man, back pain sucks but groin pain is the worst ever. With groin pain I can barely move. Usually losing gut weight and working on my core muscles resolves all my back pain issues.
