Chiefs sign Cassel to 6-yr 63M deal

Anyone know how this ranks with salaries/contracts of other QBs? I still think this guy is not going to do as well as he did in NE, but who knows.

Matt Cassel signs long-term deal with Kansas City Chiefs - ESPN

Wow they better hope he's the real deal and not another Scott Mitchell.

Or as someone commented on ESPN.com...

"Whoopee...the next Steve Bono..."

I wonder if the Chiefs think that the 63M include Randy Moss, Wes Welker, the Patriots D and Darth Hoody.

First Delhomme and now Cassel?

I think we've officially reached the point in time where the salary cap is hurting more than it's helping. Apparently, the QB that is not worth 10 million a year has zero job security.

If Kyle Orton buys a mansion tomorrow, I swear...

If Cassel indeed doesn't work out or lives up to the hype, I will declare Bill Belichik (a.k.a. Darth Hoody) the greatest football mind alive. Because of all these questionable moves done by McDaniels in Denver (dismantling the offense, running Culter out of town) and Pioli in KC (mortgaging their future on Cassel); which obviously were not done in NE.

Ok, I am exaggerating on this, but I just find it funny that these two guys are making all these somewhat questionable moves after being on a team that seems to always make sure/unquestionable moves.

According to NFL Network, in terms of earnings this year Schaub is #1 at $17 mil. and Cassel is #2 at $15 mil. BTW Brady will make about $8 mil. this year, or about half of Cassel's salary.

I really like your "Darth Hoody" nickname. Spot on and unforgettable. Maybe he is Philip Rivers' father.

Did they sign Randy Moss and Wes Welker too?

Personally I don't believe in Cassel, but there's no way he can turn KC around. There's no receivers there and I think everyone will consider him a bust after next year. He's still young though and if you can get a quarterback to build around then it's not a bust if he eventually gets good. I don't think Cassel's a good QB, more a product of the system, but we will see week 6.

Campbell is better than Jake Delhomme and as for Cassel I can't say JC is better because he did go 11-5 last year fresh off the pine..

I agree they dont really have any WRs but they have the most important piece of the tandem, the QB. They can find good WRs but finding a good QB isnt easy. KC wont be great this year but they will fill in the pieces and next season will be a break out one for Cassel & KC.

Yep, good receivers are a dime a dozen in this ole league they call the NFL.

Personally I think Tyler Thigpen is getting the shaft. I thought he had a pretty good year last year his first season as a starter. But I guess the knock on him is he's too short and won't ever be the franchise QB Cassel could be.
