Wow! 18 months. Man, even in the midst of an 8 game winning streak we can't avoid bad news.
Strasburg and Boras just won some major leverage

re: Zimmermann gone for 18 months
Can you please change the title of the thread to Zimmermann, he's not the same guy as Zimmerman.

re: Zimmermann gone for 18 months
That was the first thing that went through my mind when I heard this news. Sucks for Zimmerman. He won't be full go until spraining training 2011. On the flipside, the Nats aren't going to be any good for at least a few more seasons anyway, and nowadays some guys come back from Tommy John actually throwing harder than before the surgery. All the best to Jordan. He's young. He'll be fine.

re: Zimmermann gone for 18 months
What a downer. Just when the team starts playing good and consistently they get hit with probably the most devastating news in Nationals history. The #1 pitching prospect in the system is out for 18 months.
The FO must sign Strasburg and all the other remaining draft picks they have left. Also, they need to go out and get a veteran starting pitcher to lead the young kids. Trade Guzman for whatever pitching prospects you can get....it doesn't matter if they're rookies or AAA pitchers. They need much more depth. Damn man. I watch this team everyday and its hard not love them (even with their horrible record). I really feel bad for the guys in the clubhouse. God speed Jordan! |

Re: Zimmermann gone for 18 months
Scared me...I own Ryan a fantasy team and have no good 3B backup.
Big blow. The kid was looking like he had a bright future when the Yankees buy him after proving himself.

Re: Zimmermann gone for 18 months
This sucks but their pitching line is barren. It is one of the few spots in the org that has some hope right now. I didn't know Tommy John surgery took so long to recover from.

Re: Zimmermann gone for 18 months
the 8-game winning streak was great! Now I hope they can start another one. Too bad about J. Zimmerman though. 18 months is a long time. We need Strasburg more than ever, but we should pick up a free agent starter.

Re: Zimmermann gone for 18 months
I really didn't think we would get Strasburg, but we did. Jordan Zimmermann was on his way to a very successful career. I just hope he can come back after surgery. The Nats will still need him.

Re: Zimmermann gone for 18 months
Everything I've read lately says that Tommy John surgery has a very high success rate these days. Of course, anything could happen, but I think that given enough time Zimmermann will be back and be a key part of a very good/young rotation.
