10/4/04 Gibbs Press Conference
The highlights:
-Goal is to score 3 TD's each game, not getting the job done obviously -Penalties and turnovers hurting the team -Pass protection improved, need more guys to make some plays -Defensively very stout, tough game ahead against Ravens, gave up a few big plays but overall played extremely well week in week out -Some key mistakes on punt coverage, called for a facemask which wasn't a facemask but that's life in NFL -Gotta keep working hard to improve -Coles fumble would have been close, hard to overturn it -He didn't make much of Browns "knowing" the plays, said it happens all the time where guys "know" what's coming. Ran plays where they knew what was coming but still made yards, gotta execute and be more efficient -No huddle helps for tempo, Brunell calls the plays in those situations -Talked a bit about headset, he seemed pretty irked, said it's the NFL, shouldn't have these problems, fix it. Lost his phone in 2nd half, intermittment with QB and upstairs. Lot's of technical problems, 2 series where communications were a problem -Portis is very physical back and good receiver, all around back. Can't explain his fumbling. Have to live through it for now. -Working hard to keep team spirits up, team is being tested, football alot like life, adversity and real success test you -Barrow seeing knee specialist, still thinks he's heck of a football player, doing everything they can to work with him right now -Unknown when LaVar will be back right now -Ray Brown likely out next week, complimented Bowen for playing with groin injury, Coles with finger -Said Brunell made several good plays with mobility, 4th down play especially -3rd and longs big issue, hard to overcome, need to work on that |

Portis isn't a physical back. Even the small DBs are manhandling him.

Portis is very physical. only more athletic than bruising. he cant get tackled by any DB, he's just as slippery as they are. unfortunately he can't get in the secondary to prove my point, the DLmen and LBs are getting to him first.

KC using their pro bowl center (i think, someone on that line) to run into the hole, our line seems to be too busy... maybe rock could do it... or sellers... we gotta have someone.. maybe we could use lavar

Sellers was the running tb/te hybrid who made the holes for Stephen Davis cannot see why he couldn't do it again

watching the KC game was kind of amazing... #77 on their O line was shoving 2 and 3 guys out of holmes way almost every single play... i WISH our run blocking was half as good as theirs right now...
