Unhappy Now who thinks we're winning 9+ games...?

I remember a poll on this site asking us onliners what we thought the Skins would finish this season & I was bashed a bit for being pessimistic & stating I thought the Skins would be lucky to finish 8-8 or worse.

8 - 8 would now be the best this team can expect to finish with 2 more loses on the way to the Eagles.

It is clear that Gibbs does not have the players he needs to turn this sinking ship around yet.

I am not blaming Joe & his staff or the players, Gibbs inherited this mess & 1 season is not enough to turn it around.

Let just be honest in the future when we poll in preseason, being hopeful is one thing, but 10 wins would have been a miracle....!

Please don't flame me on this posting..... TY

I can't fault anyone for thinking 10 wins sounded realistic back in August. On paper the team has a decent amount of talent and the coaching staff is the most experienced in the league. Most of us didn't count on such a rough adjustment period.

Chouns, even with your guarded optimism I don't think even you would have expected us to be 1-4 at this point, am I correct?

Point is I think we all were being honest when we predicted 10 wins, I guess 10 wins is looking more likely... for next season maybe.

I would say we will now win about 6 or 7. I can see us struggling a little bit longer but not much longer. By the end of the season I am sure we could be the best team but too little too late. Giving us once again something to look foreward to next year.

You are correct to a point Mattyk72, but our inability to perform offensively has been the problem now for several seasons & no one has resolved this yet.

I'm just tired of watching poor execution & pathetic production. An offense begins with a stable line & it's abvious that our o-line is not stable. With Jansen things would have been much better, but I'm not sure that it would have constituted into 10 wins...?

This team just needs time, like all great teams this year they are built with time & not in 1 season with a great coach fresh out of retirement.

I just hope Gibbs stays for 4 years....

Chounsman:

The Skins have lost 4 times. Even if you concede the 2 games to the Eagles - which I am not yet ready to do - that gives them 6 losses. So 10-6 would still be the "best the team can expect" under your scenario.

You are ABSOLUTELY correct that this team has holes in it and that Gibbs inherited those holes and cannot plug all of them in a single season.

I had the Skins at 10-6 for the year before the season started. I had the Browns down as a win but I had the Ravens as a loss so I still think that 9-7 is possible. But my crystal ball is getting cloudier and cloudier as the days go by...

The sadest thing of late is I'm actually taking losing easier than in the past. I'm starting to forget what it meant to be a Redskins fan....? How pathetic!!!!

I'm no fair weather fan, but I need to just feel that we are playing competitive.

I'm an asst baseball coach for the 10-12 age group & I never let them play uncompetitive ball, no matter what, so I take losing pretty personal

No, redwagon, we're gonna win at least 10 next season. I'm really proud of this defense, just can't wait 'till LaVar comes back

This year we are finished because the O-line can't execute a running play to save there lives. The ravens were in the back field before Portis barely had the ball in his hands a lot of times. If we can't run the ball we can't do anything offensively.

9+ wins while difficult isn't impossible. We could be like the 1992 Chargers who started 1-4 and finished 11-5 with a wild card win, or the 2001 Patriots who started 1-3 and finished 11-5 with the Lombardi Trophy

I know, we're already penciled in to lose two to the Eagles and one to the Packers. But we we're penciled in to beat the Giants at home and the Browns, but we lost. So who's to say we can't win against Philly and GB? That's why they play the game

Very good comment on the O-line. We have, arguably one of the best O-line coaches ever. With Brunell in there, Jansen's absence is a huge weakness for us.

We don't have O-linemen who play with any attitude, though. Buges tried to fire them up for the year by giving them the name Dirtbags, but they're not living up to that smashmouth name. Randy Thomas is smashmouth, and he's the only one on the line with any attitude. What good are Dockery's 340 pounds if he's as tame as a blind man's labrador. Samuels? Yea, he's pass blocking a lot better this year, but he's not tearing it up like Ogden. I suspect Mark Wilson has more attitude than Kenyatta & Ray - put him in at RT.

No doubt we will win a ton in the upcoming year. Our defense is strong even without Lavar, Barrow... I never said we wouldn't win more than 9 games in two seasons but I know we won't win less!!!

I could still see us winning 8 games, just because or defense is rediculous. Our offense couldnt score a touchdown on a Varisty Football Team. No points = No wins. If somehow we just start clicking on offense, which I doubt is going to happen, I think anythings possible. Right now, with our offense, I'll be happy with 2 wins, cause thats all we deserve if we play like that.

Remember this: In '98, the Skins started 0-7 and ended up 7-9 (I think)....and won the division the following year. And we all remember starting 0-5 and finishing 8-8 under Marty. Hall Of Fame coach Joe Gibbs is better than both Marty and Norv, so 9 or 10 wins are still possible. Yeah, at this point, 7-9 or 8-8 is more of a realistic thought, but I'm still hoping....
