Plus, you can use the giant bucket as a crapper when all those processed foods go through you like a freight train.

Precisely why I shared it.
20-year old corn chowder...yum. I don't even like it when it's fresh. You still need a water and heat source with this stuff...could be a little difficult. Fire is easier to find than clean water in a doomsday crisis. I'd rather stock up on astronaut food. Fries and ice cream!

Re: Prepapre for Doomsday with a bucket of Emergency Food!
It would be better to make a few close friendships / aquiantences with people who grow their own food, own firearms, and keep their mouths shut.
All those servings of food are nice to have around, but next to worthless if you don't have clean water. Me, I just squirrel away things people will want if the lights go out and don't come back on: batteries, booze, bullets, soap, food, water, razor blades, heirloom seeds, petrol, oil, hand tools, penicillin, condoms, aspirin, and a host of other things I don't care to list. I use these things anway, so they'll not go to waste just sitting in my cupboard. An old Monacan told me. "In times of peace, prepare for war."

Re: Prepapre for Doomsday with a bucket of Emergency Food!
So 275 meals for $75. 91 days of food for a person, at the cost of $0.27 per meal, or $0.82 a day. This could is WAY cheaper than Nutrisystem for people trying to lose weight, or poor college kid survival kit. Think of all the extra beer you could buy.

Read the book The Road and you might think twice about that.

Use a rag or a piece of cloth to filter the water into a pot. Then use the fire to boil the pot of water. |

Re: Prepapre for Doomsday with a bucket of Emergency Food!
I'll never tell. let's just say, if I get laid off I'll not have to worry about where my next meal is coming from for awhile.
Honestly, nothing that I can't use up myself in a long period of time (a year). If things get tough I can make it last (two and a half). Except for the booze, which I don't drink. Everclear comes in handy down here since it's illegal. Somethings I will just use for barter, IE: glass & stainless steel syringes, stainless steel surgical kits, strait razors, filtration kits, not to mention you can never have enough booze and condoms. I don't expect the end of the world to come. If things get real effed up, I can step across the street into the White Oak Swamp and just chill. I used to do that anyway, but we've been having a rabies problem lately.

From what I understand, the water isn't radioactive, the particles in it are. In theory the water can be filtered safely, just not distilled only. I think you'd need a more complex osmosis system than a rag though, perhaps two rags and a brillo soap pad.
