You're Dan Snyder, what's your move?

Ok let's role play and pretend to be Dan Snyder.

Scary thing is I'm sure a lot of us could do a better job at being Dan Snyder than Dan Snyder can, so here goes.

If I'm Snyder, the day the season ends Zorn is gone. Here's my termination discussion with him, Jimmy I'm sorry things didn't work out. I have to apologize for putting you in a tough situation for a first time head coach. You were in over your head and that was my fault. I wish you the best, but we have to move in another direction.

The second thing I'm doing is calling up Vinny and saying, sorry pal but our way clearly isn't working. We've tried big name coaches, big name players, now it's time to try a big time GM. See you on the racquetball court.

Now, the third thing I do is dial up Bill Polian in Indy. I'm saying Bill, I've got a blank check here with your name on it. I will make you the highest paid GM in the history of sports. I'm giving you 100% autonomy and control to build and run this franchise. Build me a winner. If he turns me down I'm saying, is your son there... can I talk with him?

TODAY,
I hire Sherlock Holmes, Magnum PI, and Sam Spade to find me the baddest, hotshoe GM that can be found. He comes in now to evaluate and map out the off-season to determine if Jim has...any place here. AND to see what components, players and coaches we want to keep.
HE can determine the path to glory while many good coaches are available.
Yo' Vinnie........get my clubs

That's a great summation, almost as if you had taken the words out of the "little mans" mouth. Would be great if we could land a talent like Bill Polian, I doubt that would be possible, but his son Paul would be a welcomed addition. Hell, I'd even be willing to give Casserley another opportunity.

sounds good to me, that's about what I would do as DS. Also make a statement to the fans, throw a bone to ticket holders somehow.

Not only would that be a great move but that move would also be perfectly timed. Doing it the end of the year would show that he is not making rash decisions. Making a great decision like that would really endear him to the fans.

My only caveat is this...I still don't trust Snyder at all. To ensure that he is not influencing the roster or personnel in the future. The person who comes in has to be majorly underpaid so that person doesn't feel ANY obligation to let Snyder in the front office or any decision making process.

All he has to do is put it in writing for the new GM. Include a clause where the contract is void if he steps over the line.

Kind of like Marty did : ) He was before his time.

Yeah...I agree with that. But I kinda like the attitude of someone who is underpaid. I just want to hear our next GM tell Snyder "You don't pay me enough for this sh#*" when Snyder tries to come into the lockeroom.

Everything here I agree with and if Polian didnt want GM I would keep his son in mind but would ask Holgrem next. I would let the GM make all football decisions and hirings. But before that GM starts, I would then fire all offense and special team coaches the same day as Zorn above. I would then call JC, Portis, ARE, and the most of O-line in the office and inform them they will not be with the team next year and explain why by showing them game tape of our first six games and then by reading them their salaries.

That is precisely what I would do except for the racquetball part.

I'm guessing that Snyder will not do the same, though.

Re: You're Dan Snyder, what's your move?

Originally I was thinking about this list being done after the season is over, but now I think this plan should go into effect as soon as possible.

Step One: Fire Vinny and Zorn ASAP.
Step Two: Hire GM, see Chris Polian, Eric DeCosta, Rick Spielman, Mike Holmgren....
Step Three: Let new GM hire Head Coach. Preferably Offensive minded and someone with outstanding motivational skills, and who is not afraid of getting after poor performers or prima donnas.
Step Four: GM and Head Coach shall hire Offensive Co-ordinator, that will call plays. Now is the time to decide if the WCO is what should be ran or if more of a Coryell style is what is needed.
Step Five: Remove Cancer from the roster.
Step Six: Rebuild Offensive line with the best free agents under 27 years old and prepare to draft rookie QB for grooming.
Step Seven: Draft for need and be willing to trade down to grab players at their best value.
Step Eight: The most important step, Dan Snyder just sign the checks.

Re: You're Dan Snyder, what's your move?

I think the most important thing is to possible bring in outsiders, not yes men. Some third party to assess how he has done his job. Positives and negatives. I think danny needs to get his head outta his ass, and stop thinking what he is doing is right or wrong. He needs to know he doesnt have a full grasp in ownership right now; as any good businessman he needs to learn from mistakes, get some suggestions, change and move on.

Re: You're Dan Snyder, what's your move?

The thought of being Dan Snyder is far too icky for me to contemplate, so I'll just ignore that part and give him some advice.

Dan, do you remember that Seinfeld episode when George Costanza realized that every decision he made turned out wrong and that, from then on, he would do the opposite of what his instincts told him to do? And do you remember that when he started going counter to his instincts, things began to work out for him? Do that.

Re: You're Dan Snyder, what's your move?

Step 1: Begin my new search for my GM today. Top of the list are Holmgren, Dungy, B. Allen.

Steps 2-3: Fire Cerrato and Zorn at the end of the season.

Step 4: Allow my new GM to hire a WCO Coach who won't be in over his head and re-evaluate the entire roster

Step 5: Sign the necessary checks, and grit my teeth through the rebuilding process

Additional Steps: Tom Cruise is no longer allowed near my sideline or luxury box

Re: You're Dan Snyder, what's your move?

Get an established GM or talk to knowledgeable people around the league about the rising stars in the league who they would recommend and immediately give him complete control. Let him make the decisions from day 1 to fire, cut, trade or whatever he wants to do. Sit back, shut up, and enjoy owning the Redskins knowing that I just made the best decision for this franchise to become great again.
