Re: meyer to step down as gators coach
I hope it is not serious , Meyer has done a great job as a coach , as well as a mentor for his student/athletes .

Re: meyer to step down as gators coach
Well he was having chest pains following the SEC Championship game, so I think it's pretty serious. Sounds like one of those "next time" you might not be so lucky deals.

Re: meyer to step down as gators coach
very surprising. hope he ends up ok. as for florida, its a shame charlie strong left for louisville already, otherwise the job would have been his imo. but since hes gone now, if i were florida, id look at whittingham from utah (where meyer came from, led utah to undefeated season and bama win in sugar bowl last year), or peterson from boise state. he runs an offense that would be very successful at florida, plus hes had great results with boise. but just my two cents, those would be my guys.

Well, I want to throw up. He has a heart muscle defect. We'll see how it plays out. He's certainly not done with football. He is staying with the program in a non-coaching capacity, with the exact position yet to be determined.

I wouldn't mind Stoops or Gruden.

Re: meyer to step down as gators coach
Didn't see this coming but after the "dehydration" episode earlier in the year it definitely makes sense. Hope he gets better, but man this sucks for Florida. You think you have your coach for at least the next ten years only to get this bomb dropped on you.

If I had to guess, I'd say Meyer sticks around UF in some capacity for a few years (hopefully recruiting- he's the best at that), recharges the batteries, and comes back to coaching. Depending on how the new coach does, he may either return as Florida head coach, or maybe the NFL somewhere. On a side note, Mike Freeman at CBSsports.com is reporting that multiple NFL sources say Jon Gruden wants to coach the Gators, and that the Gators are interested in him. He makes no secret about being a Gator fan, and said he would have taken the job when Spurrier left if Florida had offered it to him. Interesting....

I don't know, GM. They're saying this thing is a benign cyst and has caused him headaches for sometime. I wish him the best though. It would be great if he could return to coaching someday.

I think it's heart-related. He has a heart valve disorder apparently. I wouldn't be surprised if it was brought on by all the non-stop stress and sleepless nights that come with being a big-time HC. Plus I heard earlier that he has a history of heart problems in his family. If you remember, when Butch Davis left the Cleveland Brows, he cited the same kind of health concerns, both mentally and physically. He took some time off, got right, and now he's back. Anyway, you said he's done with football. I strongly disagree.
