Re: QB Class gets weaker
I don't know, good think Gilbert from Texas is only a Freshman... otherwise we might go after him. Oh wait... Vinny is no longer with us.

Re: QB Class gets weaker
So we have Jimmy Clausen having toe ligament surgery, 2 to 3 months recovery, Tim Tebow who most analysts say will not be an NFL QB, Sam Bradford who has a rather ginger shoulder himself, McCoy who already had questions about arm strength but now hurts shoulder, and Mallett returning to ARK.
Zac Robinson? Tony Pike? QB int he second round instead?

I actually like Robinson a lot but have concerns about him as a full-time franchise QB in the NFL

Re: QB Class gets weaker
I'd rather have Colt in the second, or third if we can't get a pick somewhere from someone. I don't think he's as broke up as Bradford. Let him suck his thumb on the bench for a year or two while JC or Colt play. Let him get schooled up. By the time he's ready, there will be an offense ready for him or whoever plays QB for us.

Adrian Peterson missed most of his last college season with a far worse injury. How did that turn out?

Re: QB Class gets weaker
snead couldnt even play well in college, how is he going to do in the pros? big time project with upside supposedly, but it may take 3 or 4 years...
colt and bradford ran out of the shotgun almost exclusively in spread offenses against fairly average college defenses aside from nebraska. they were used to zero pressure most of their careers, neither would be ready for some time..., again imo pike is in the same boat, shotgun qb, imo he is the definition of a system qb. look at how well collaros played when he came in. i dont see a lot from pike. id be more dissapointed to get him than anyone else. dont see the hype in him at all. zac robinson played well at times but i dont see him as a good nfl qb. lifelong backup. clausen will have the quickest transition to the nfl.

Re: QB Class gets weaker
It was fun to watch this kid grow last night as the game went on. The coach did not help him out at all by calling that last play with like 8 seconds left in the 1st half. He should have let the clock run out so they could get in the locker and work on a new game plan. In the second half you could see the game slow down for Gilbert on every snap. Think he is a freshman with little experience and asked to play almost 4qtrs. of the biggest game in college. My hats off to him.

Re: QB Class gets weaker
Bradford, no. McCoy in second round, or Clausen in first if he Shanahan really thinks hes the right guy for us.

Re: QB Class gets weaker
I hope this puts a little bit of a damper in the 'draft a qb in the first round' mentality and refocuses the effort to find top tier, young linemen whom we can plug in and then forget about for the next 5 years.

Re: QB Class gets weaker
I know he played with Pettigrew and Okung at different times, but this may show a very rare, undervalued ability to get rid of the football, in Zac Robinson.
Or it just may say something about pass rush in the Big XII. I think we should get Orakpo's thoughts.

Edit: Actually, despite the fact that Iupati is going to be a quality Guard for whatever team drafts him, the fact of the matter is that he's to slow and "clumsy" to work in Shannahans system. Height-Weight-Speed - 2 -Possesses an enormous frame and is thickly built. Top-end speed is below average for the position but his massive size makes it understandable. I am now off the Iupati as a Redskin bandwagon. Vladamir Ducasse (G, UMass) is now my new fix for best available lineman in the second round. Height-Weight-Speed -2 -Possesses a massive frame and above-average athleticism. Toughness -3 -Carries weight extremely well and displays excellent core strength. Shows good aggression at the point of attack. We would like to see more of a nasty side and needs to finish on a more consistent basis. Pass Protection -2 -Quick into sets and is light on his feet. Uses long arms well to keep rushers at bay. Slides and redirects well when recovering against double moves. Is capable of anchoring against bull rush when he plays with leverage. Footwork is a bit inconsistent and usually is the underlying cause when having problems in protection. Run Blocking -2 - Displays a quick first step and takes strong angles to the point. Plays with balance and leverage and is able to engulf defenders with massive frame and strength. Moves well in the open field and can adjust on the move in space. However needs to take more precise angles when cutting off linebackers and could use to play with lower pad level at times.
