My First Caps Game Jan 15th- Pregame Suggestions?
Got a nice xmas present this year...Caps tickets. It will be my first caps game, so a friend and I will be leaving from Richmond early Friday afternoon.
We'd like to get up there and drink a beer or two prior to the game. Preferably, w/n walking/cab distance from the Verizon Center. I believe the ESPN Zone is near...any other suggestions? |

Personally I wouldn't do the ESPN zone because there are plenty of good bars even closer to the Phone Booth. Not to say it's bad but it probably wouldn't be my first choice.
RDF is really close by and that's another great place because it's big and has one of the biggest beer selections in the city. The Greene Turtle is always FULL of Caps fans before games since it is literally attached to the Verizon Center, so it's not a bad place to get in the mood for the game.

I was thinking about the Green Turtle-wasn't sure if it was inside the Verizon Center or attached.
What's RDF? |

While I agree with my dyslexic friend about ESPN Zone, AMD it's RFD
There are a ton of great restaurants and bars within a 4 block walk of the Verizon Center. Fado's, Irish Channel (My personal fave place to grab a pint of Guinness), Clyde's, Rocket Bar, Hooters, plus the numerous Asian restaurants in Chinatown.

Rocket Bar is great before a game if you have some time to kill playing pool or shuffle board. The only problem is the stink of that place might follow you for the rest of the night.

RFD, Fado, or Clydes before. RFD has a freaking ridiculous beer selection.
Green turtle is kinda lame, but its connected to the Verizon center. I don't think I've ever done rocket bar before a game, but afterward its always been fun.

Had a great time. Had a couple drafts before the game at RFD. Dogfish Head IPA 60 and an Arcadia. Then went to the Greene Turtle which was standing room only jam packed w/ Caps fans. Very cool. Very good time before the game and enjoyed a 6-1 Caps win.
