worst contract ever
just wondering who everyone thinks of when they think of awful contracts, right now arenas' contract has to be up there over 100 million to a guy with a bum knee, he has barely played at all since he signed that contarct and will most likely never play in a wizards uni again.
this is open to all sports

Mike Hampton with the Rockies is always the first one that comes to mind with me

Re: worst contract ever
Javon Walker got a great deal a few years ago and never played.
Carlos Beltre also got a great deal and never lived up to it. Jason Giambi should be on the list too. |

Re: worst contract ever
There are really horrible baseball contracts every year. Jose Guillen's 3/36 comes to mind. Vernon Wells' 7/120 is a classic.
But in terms of sheer ridiculousness, I've never seen anything worse than last year's 5yr Delhomme extension in which he pocketed $20 million on signing it. Look, the Redskins have had their hands forced by the salary cap more times than we can count in the past seven years, and I objected to guarenteeing megabucks to a player like Portis at the time, as well as the ridiculous Lloyd extension of 2006...but Delhomme got $20 million AFTER the playoff meltdown from last year, with a year remaining on his contract, and at the age of 34. That's the worst contract ever.

I don't know if you mean Carlos Beltran or Adrian Beltre, but neither has really failed to perform to his contract size. At least to date. Beltran's injury could change that, but long term deals kind of have to be judged differently on the back end, as they are signed with a certain expectation of risk of injury/decline to get the excess value on the front end.

Re: worst contract ever
Antoine Walker was given a max deal in the NBA and played horrendously afterward.

Albert Belle when he signed with the Orioles. Proceeded to do nothing for the Birds, degenerative hip forced him into retirement, and the Orioles were paying him for years afterwards.

Absolute worst contract of all time-David Beckham's 5 year 250 million dollar contract with the LA Galaxy
