2010 Combine

Matt Terl blogged about getting ready to go to Indy for the Combine and here are a couple quotes from Bruce Allen's take:
Quote:
But if [Matt Terl is] still working out how I can best handle the Combine experience, Allen has no such concerns.

"Scott [Campbell, director of player personnel] has managed to put together quite a tight agenda for me," Allen said, holding up an inch-thick three-ring binder. "I don't know how specific you want me to be, but ... in the evenings, it's gonna be mostly player interviews. During the day, you're inside the dome watching the players work out. And in between everything, we're meeting with a lot of agents who have our players to discuss, what tenders we might be putting on them, where they stand on our current roster. And, really, it becomes a twenty-hour-a-day football fest, so to speak."

This is also, to a certain extent, the true start of the 2010 offseason. "It's the first time I'm gonna be able to speak to some of the agents about our players," Allen said, "and -- obviously -- they're curious about what tenders we're gonna put on and what Coach Shanahan and the coaches' visions are for their clients."

So Allen and Shanahan will be working not only on their draft class, but laying the groundwork for the veteran portion of the offseason as well. "We're gonna have some vacancies," Allen said bluntly, "and there's gonna be good competitions. All the coaches, that's what they're looking for, and I think the players will embrace it. Now, not all the players that were on the team last year are gonna be here this year, but -- once again -- that's not unique to the Redskins. We're looking for players who wanna get better, because we have coaches who wanna help them get better."
Nothing earth shattering in this quote, but as I have said before, every quote from Bruce Allen has the right tone, and good spin.

Here is a good article that breaks down Combine results by position:

Does anyone have any other good Combine links or discussions?

Re: 2010 Combine

Yeah, we got pro days not too far off though in March.. I think Clausen's is the 19th and Bradford won't be doing his but will have a personal one on the 25th I think

gives us plenty of time to look at the other QBs and positions

Re: 2010 Combine

This is probably dumb, but I am looking forward to the rumor mills. Once you get all those agents and GM's and coaches in the same bldg for a couple of days, we ought to start hearing some REALISTIC options and trade scenarios. That would be great.

Colt McCoy and CJ Spiller are two guys I'm very interested in seeing (among others of course)

Nevermind...Colt reportedly won't throw at the combine now. Dr. Andrews says he's not ready

its funny you say that, because i also really enjoy all of the actual trade possibilities that bubble up to the surface as the combine, franchise tag, draft deadlines approach. i feel as though there are lots of people on this board that really dislike all of the rumors etc., but not me.

I'll have my ears to the ground (or whatever the expression is)

I like the word "realistic" enough emphasis cannot be placed on it. Good thread that will begin to gain traction in a few days. I look for Allen to keep a lid on his true intentions, but speculation is going to run rampant as a result.

Re: 2010 Combine

With McCoy not throwing, which I think is a bit disconcerting I'm curious to see if a guy like Jevan Snead can now take advantage and move up

I thought he was throwing. This would have been a good opportunity for him to gain some ground. That's too bad.

Re: 2010 Combine

Random Thought: I must say that I agree with Holmgren on this one (about to p QB's not throwing in the combine). I understand if a QB is hurt, but I hate this whole "only throwing at the school's pro day" deal.

Cleveland Browns President Mike Holmgren says it's a mistake for QBs not to throw at NFL combine | cleveland.com
