Pete Kendall Breaks Down the Owner's Perspective on Uncapped Season

First time I've ever heard himself declare himself "retired" he's already using the past tense. This is interesting stuff though.

Very funny that.

How many ways did he come up with to say the players would get 18% less?

Quote:
Expressed another way, the NFL owners are asking that the players reduce their percentage of TR, as it is currently defined, from 58% to 47.56% of TR. This lowering of the cap by 10.44 points represents an 18% reduction in the applicable percentage. Expressed in dollars, a cap of $116 million per club as calculated under the existing definition of TR, would be reduced to $95.12 million under the NFL’s proposal. Thus, if the impact of the proposal were to be spread evenly over all player salaries and benefits across the league, each player would have to take a cut of 18% in salary and benefits.
Oh my God where do I sign up? Who doesn't want a more limited salary cap? As if it wasn't enough of a pain in the arse already.

Quote:
But we should not and will not agree to pay for items such as expenses to operate practice facilities or for travel costs as the owners have included in this 18% proposal.
Would really like to get the owners perspective on all of this. Seems pretty unreasonable.

I'd love someone, unbiased, to give a similar analysis. Not that I doubt Pete but I think there are probably some shades of gray here and there. One also has to remember that each side comes to the table with a pie-in-the-sky proposal. The drastic cuts he purports, even if true, I doubt the owners thought they'd ever get.

The arguments may go nowhere until the owners open their books. The players are right when they say that the owners can't claim increased expenses yet provide no evidence.

Very funny, especially when the 18% thing is a total lie.

I really, really, really dislike DeMaurice Smith. The Union selected a horrible replacement to Upshaw. Before this is all said and done, the Players will end up taking a deal that heavily favors the League because they simply didnt select competent enough to lead them.

Wow, I heard that Smith would be excellent for the players when he was selected. He is a very accomplished attorney and I got a sense that he is ready to dig in and do everything he can for the Players Union.

Atleast from what Florio's said, the guy was considered a long-shot for the position (based on his actual experience and qualifications) but that he got the job because he put together a great presentation for the players. I get the sense that he's the type of guy who can talk weaker-minded people (average NFL player) into just about anything, but he's no match for the brains he's up against in the owners.

I know nothing of the man myself, but Florio did a good job of exposing his legal jibberjabber. we'll see what ends up happening, but I think the next CBA will be very league-friendly.

Yeah Kendall is either being dishonest with his stated numbers or doesn't understand basic mathematics.
