Important Match-up against the Lions

Lions DT, Shaun Rogers, has had a really good year to date getting several sacks from the DT position and getting a LOT on inside pressure on QBs. If he does that this week and flushes Brunell from the pocket with any degree of regularity, that is going to limit the Skins' pass offense more than just a little bit.

The center and the two guards MUST limit Rogers penetration and cannot allow him to bullrush them into Brunell's lap. Keep an eye on that aspect of the game on passing downs.

That is an interesting matchup. They say the Lions have one the best front 4. But I was looking at some stats, and the Lions D ranks pretty low in run defense as well as pass D.

I think the Lions are ranked like 26th in rushing offense. I think this game has interesting matchups all across the board.

Must win game here, if we drop to 2-6 that's just too big of a hole to climb out of.

The team needs to turn it around, now.

We should be able to run the ball against their D, and hopefully that will open up the passing game.......one can only dream

I'm not gonna say I'm hoping for an injury, but maybe Rogers can help get Ramsey some playing time...

200 + yards for Portis, Gardner and Coles get TD's, our D shuts them down, even with back-ups in courtesy of Williams scheme.

I may turn to booze if we don't get this win.

Must win here. It really depends on which Lions team shows up, even if their best shows up, we still have a chance.

I am a huge Joey Harrington fan, I've liked him ever since college, so I watch Detroit when the Skins arent on ( I'm already trying to figure out what to do with my Joey Harrington stuff sunday, somthing tells me I snap and rip it all off the wall before I go watch the game.) Anyways, here are the key to this game. Stop Roy Williams.. if he plays..Kevin Jones is a decent back but not great, if we were able to stop Jamal Lewis and Ahman Green the way we did, we should stop him no problem. The Lions other recivers are nothing special, but if we can hold Williams in check, we should hold their offense in check.

Our offense.... I dont even know what to say, they have to do somthing. 17 Rushing attempts isnt gonna cut it. I wanna see Betts/Porits run a ton, and we will start throwing when nessacarry. I really think if were gonna keep Brunell @ QB, we really have to limit the way we go about our offense, not throw 44 times a game ( granted we trailed so no big deal ).

As far down as we are, I still have slim hopes. I hope we can rattle off a win here and next week ( we should deifntley beat Cinci ), so we can go to Philly 4-5 and at least I can get excited about the fact if we win it pulls us up to .500. Well one game at a time, I suppose. I have a good, but not great feeling about this game. If Dallas can beat these guys, so can we.

If we win 2 games in a row that would a HUGE boost to our confidence. Even though its only the Lions and the Bengals we gotta start winning sometime soon or the season is down the toilet

You know Gmanc, you may be the one person this board more superstitious then me. If we were to ever watch a game together, it would be hilarious to see our separate superstitions collide.

What would probably happen is: Both of us would be sitting down and drinking beer when the skins score on the opening drive. Neither one of us would move or stop drinking beer until something bad happens - naturally that would be the game the Skins offense clicks in and we win 58 - 0.

Of course, we wouldn't see the end of the game b/c our bladders burst sometime during the 3rd quarter and we collapsed unconscience. BUT - we didn't leave our chairs and jinx'em.

I forgot to post a predictions thread so we might as well turn this one into it.

My prediction:

Lions 20
Skins 13

Skins offense just isn't doing anything to make me believe they can pull this game out.

The only way I see a Skins win is if we get Portis 30 carries, play mistake free football, and keep Brunell out of 3rd and longs.

At least we'll be another loss closer to Ramsey starting.

Skins D scores twice, Lions get touchdown off Brunell fumble.

Seeing that the Lions D isn't that good, I see this as the break-out game from the Skins offense where they not only break 20 points, but break 30. TD's scored by Coles (finally!), Cooley, Portis, and an INT return by Smoot or Taylor. Another 150+ yard performance from Portis, and our QB throws for over 250 yards.
The D will hold Detroit to 3 FG's and one late TD.

Skins 34
Lions 16

One more thing: I think I speak for many of us when I say I could care less who our QB is, as long as he is well-protected and plays well.

If we can stop Roy Williams, we can stop their offense. I think Springs gets 2 INTs and Portis gets about 150 and 2 TDs.

28-17 Skins.

Also I think we get the win and Brunell still looks horrid, but because Portis looks great he overshadows it and Brunell starts against the Bungals next week.

If we loose this game and next week agaist the Bungels look for Ramsey to start the rest of the season.
