NFL Players Weigh In On Haynesworth Situation
NFL players discuss 18-game season, Albert Haynesworth, TV - Ross Tucker - SI.com
• Any sympathy or understanding for Albert Haynesworth and his situation? Muhsin Muhammad, retired wide receiver: "Absolutely not. I've always been a player that got thrown into different situations with coaching and scheme changes and had to figure out how to deal with it. Plus, he could increase his value long-term if he shows he can play both the 3-4 and 4-3 effectively." Hollis Thomas, free agent defensive tackle: "There are two sides to every story. He was promised that he was going to play in the 4-3. Nose tackle in the 3-4 is not fun." Orlando Pace, free agent offensive tackle: "No way. They could ask me to wash dishes for that kind of money and I wouldn't complain. I can't support what he is doing." Leber: " No, not at all. We all sign a contracts in this league knowing that things change whether it is head coaches, coordinators, schemes, teammates, etc. When you sign a contract with a franchise, you have an obligation to perform for them." Ward: "No sympathy whatsoever. You play the game to win a title and get a huge payday. He got his huge payday and now he is worried about how the scheme will affect his production?" Brooks: "I know if I was his teammate, I would reach out to him privately and tell him how I feel. I would tell him that when you sign a contract in the NFL, you are signing up for changes. That is the one thing you know for sure that is going to happen in the NFL." Jordan Babineaux, Seattle Seahawks safety: " If you look at it, he had his most production and best years when he was a 3 technique and just causing havoc every play in the "B" gap on the outside shoulder of the guard. But now he will just get double teamed every play." O'Hara: " Albert played extremely hard to get a large contract. A lot of times when players get that, they feel entitled. Even though you receive a contract you still have to earn that money. He should be willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win however they decide to go about it. At what time is it about team?" Read more: NFL players discuss 18-game season, Albert Haynesworth, TV - Ross Tucker - SI.com

Re: NFL Players Weigh In On Haynesworth Situation
Love Orlando Pace's comments and attitude.
Seriously, if Al wants to play 4-3 so badly, just return the bonus and we'll let him go. Unfortunately, we all know that won't happen...money is the driving force for Haynesworth and with his numerous legal/financial problems, he'll want all he can get.

...Michael Vick. I think Faat AL might have surpassed, or will be shortly, Mike for the #1 most disliked player in the NFL soon. Wouldn't break my heart. Not that I'm sure he gives two craps about what other people think.

Yeah, the only DT of the bunch agrees with Haynesworth.

Re: NFL Players Weigh In On Haynesworth Situation

I have a couple of questions for you. 1. How do these players get paid. Is it only a once a week type of deal during the season? Are they paid salaries for training camp or do they recieve nothing other than during the regular season? (Now I do know how the roster bonuses work so no need to breach that topic.) 2. After reading an article on Redskins.com concerning our special teams situation, I am concerned about competition in training camp. One thing that really bothers me is why we did not resign our punter from last year. Hunter Smith, was it because of is injury issues? He was about as good as you could get for us last year and I don't understand hesitation to bring him back. The kicker I am not as worried about because I am sure if he doesnt kick well we will go out and get a guy or 2 for a kicking competition. Thanks in advance for any info.

2. I don't know why they didn't keep Hunter Smith. But no one else has picked him up yet either so I guess there's still a possibility he re-signs

Re: NFL Players Weigh In On Haynesworth Situation
I doubt Big Al became selfish and above it all overnight. I guess its something the Skins thought they could change or live with but obviously they cant. Of course in retrospect they should have never signed this bum in the first place so all we can hope for now is that the new regime will focus signing guys that want to be in DC for more than a payday.

Re: NFL Players Weigh In On Haynesworth Situation
Smith had some leg issues last year. Could have something to do with him not being brought back. Someone will probably sign him before or during camp.

Thanks Smoot.
To follow up on Question #1s answer. 1. Are they paid at all during OTA's, Work Out Days, and Mini Camps?

We didn't give out any big time contracts as of yet. I would really like to see Donovan Extended soon as well as Jamaal Brown.

Re: NFL Players Weigh In On Haynesworth Situation
I will say that I heard Amani Toomer talk about this issue on Sirius NFL Radio and he seemed to be on Haynesworth side. Saying something like, "He's unhappy and that happens, teams can cut us whenever they want, why can't he withhold his services?"
It was something to that effect, but I was surprised to hear that from a guy like Amani |

Re: NFL Players Weigh In On Haynesworth Situation
At this point any defense of AH rings hollow to me. I just can't get behind that line of thinking.
