Is Stafford's career as a starter over???

Report: Lions fear Stafford is done for the year | ProFootballTalk.com

They are saying he might have surgery from James Andrews. Is this guy just too injury prone to be an NFL starter?? It's a shame if true, he seems like a good guy and would have had a successful Pro career, but he is just unable to stay healthy, and now, his chronically injured shoulder costs him another season.

I think after 3 major shoulder surgeries in 2 years, the Lions may go after someone else at QB. Stafford stays in the NFL as a backup until he proves he can stay healthy...thoughts???

Such a hard position to draft, I feel bad for the Loins but not too much. They are set up at this point to be more successful then us in the next coming years. They got some players on that team.

I'd love to have him here -- as a starter.

That QB on the Raiders looks pretty good too. I'd Like to have him here!

We need to develop our own young starting QB.

Still too early to write him off. Phil Simms had 4 of his first 5 seasons end with injury. Though I'm sure the Lions have some concern.

I saw that play on the TV last night and that was not a hard hit. He was tackled from behind and landed on his sholder and the tackler did not land on him.

I thought Sam Bradford was supposed to be the injury prone one?

I say we merge this with the Favre thread and ask the critical question "If the Vikings make the playoffs or win the Super Bowl, will the Vikings re-sign Favre, release Tarvaris Jackson, who then signs with the Cardinals, who trade John Skelton to the Lions, who reach an injury settlement with Stafford and let him go whereby Stafford is then picked up by the Vikings?"

That just sucks for the Lions. Imagine finally finding a good, possibly great franchise QB and then going thru this. Wow. How long have they been w/out a legit QB? They've never had one.

Re: Is Stafford's career as a starter over???

He's taken a couple of really hard blows to his shoulder. The play on Sunday that re-injured it says to me that he was probably brought back too soon.

He's a serious talent. No way his career is over as a starter.

Agree, Stafford certainly has the makings of a great. Its a big loss to the lions and the league if it is a career ender, it really sucks for Stafford. I admire the Lions for what they have done to get him and develop him. I wish we would take note.

Lets hope he is able to recover and continue his career in top form.

I will almost never blame the QB for getting injured. They are usually the weakest player on the field, put into the most indefensible positions. It's up to the offensive line to make sure the QB is hardly ever touched. Wishful thinking, I know, but great teams manage to do it.
