My Biggest Fear!
This is gut wrenching and since having my son has always been a huge fear of mine that something like this could happen to him.
Toddler dies after 50-foot fall from Staples Center luxury suite - ESPN Los Angeles Apparently mammals are born with the fear of heights but I swear my son missed this lesson. If you have small children Iam sure you know this sinking feeling, it only takes them a second to get into trouble, a second!

Re: My Biggest Fear!
Check out this lucky kid.
YouTube - Toddler falls off escalator in Turkey My daughter who is going on 4 went out our side door on her own a few weeks back. She was looking for me but I was inside. Good news nothing happened and we fixed the problem before something bad could happen. |

Re: My Biggest Fear!
I heard this on the news a few minutes ago. HORRIBLE. Sad.
I hate stories like this. I'm probably like most parents and when I hear something like this, the thought comes into my mind "what if this were my son". News like this can really bring you down. Mental note...no balcony seats at games.

Re: My Biggest Fear!
It's a funny thing, before I had children a story like this would have gotten this response from me, "Damn, that's a shame."
Now it generates a substantial emotional reaction because it's so easy for me to picture it happening to my child. Death sucks indeed.

Same for me! You know that sinking feeling you get when you are just about to get hurt or receive bad news, like the color washes out of you. I use to only get that for myself but now when my son falls or gets hurt or is in danger of being hurt I get the same feeling as though it was going to happen to me.

Re: My Biggest Fear!
This is very sad indeed.
This just makes me think how lucky I am to be alive: 25 years ago I cracked my skull on Thanksgiving after going head first over the handrail on my parents' basement steps. I was 3 years old at the time and going down the steps when I leaned over the rail for some reason, lost my balance and fell about 8 feet onto a concrete floor. This kind of thing can happen so fast that its really scary. I feel terrible for this family.

Re: My Biggest Fear!
Common joke amongst my family
I've only ever broken two bones and they've both been part of my skull: The aforementioned fructure just behind/above my left ear from the fall when I was 3; and I broke the bone at the top of my nose in between my eyes when I caught a knee to the face at wrestling practice when I was 17. And on top of that I've had about as many concussions as Troy Aiken and Eric Lindros combined. :frusty:

Authorities identify man who fell to death at Bears game - NFL News | FOX Sports on MSN
CHICAGO (AP) Authorities have identified a man who fell to his death from a ledge at Soldier Field during the Chicago Bears game on Sunday afternoon. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office says 23-year-old Stewart Haverty of suburban Woodstock was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Chicago police say Haverty fell around 4:55 p.m. Sunday during the NFL matchup between the Bears and the Philadelphia Eagles. Chicago Fire Chief Joe Roccasalva says he landed on a small rooftop on the outside the stadium. Witnesses told authorities the man ran to a ledge and jumped. It's the second death in a week at a major sporting arena. On Nov. 21, a 2-year-old boy fell from a luxury box at the Staples Center during a Los Angeles Lakers game. |
