Sean Taylor at LB?

I was watching the Redskins Report on the local NBC affiliate earlier tonight and I think I heard Sonny Jurgensen say that his game plan for the Philly game would be to have ST substitute for another linebacker (Marshall?) and spy on McNabb the entire game and have someone else (Franz?) play safety tomorrow.

Did anyone else hear this? Did I hear this right? What do you guys think of that strategy?

Yep, I saw that also. I think it would be great, but don't run it all game. I remember early in the season they put LaVar at safety one play, they moved guys around. That has to be confusing as hell. It's definitely worth experimenting!

Sean tayler will be a spy and linebacker on someplays. Thats the beaty of GW system. But Tayler is too good in coverage not the use that too. He'll do it all tomorrow night. Part of the reason why Sean Tayler is quickly becoming one of my favorite Redskins. Did you see him hit TO in the mouth last game. God i love that guy.

ST weighs more than MIDDLE linebacker Mike Peterson of the Jaguars. I'm sure he could play linebacker, but I prefer to see him at safety where he has more of an opportunity to be a ballhawk.

I like it and i dont like at the same time ... one way i dont like it is because of familiarity , ST has never tried this before .... i also dont like not having him at FS when McNabb is throwing it downfield ... i do like the potential, of ST frustrating McNabb on the right plays, forcing a sack or a turn over......

Isn't Sean Taylor nearly the same build as LT?

In some situations this might a really good way of putting a good coverage man on Westbrook.

Lt was 6-3 250, about the same size as Lavar. Tayler isn't quite that big.

Taylor would be ideal to spy on McNabb the problem with that is you take him out of our secondary and away from TO, I think it's more important for Taylor to provide help on TO and allow another LB to spy McNabb, I would go with Clemon's he's our fastest LB by far, perhap's throwing some 3-4 at McNabb would help with that, the way to deal with a mobile QB like McNabb is to take away his go to reciever, keep the pass rush in their lanes so they collapse the pocket around McNabb then you can have a guy like Pierce in the middle ready to pounce on him when he comes squirting out, you have to control his scrambling you can leave him an out but if he takes it there will be someone waiting for him, Richie Pettibone was a master at that, our defensive line has to stay disiplined and work as one cohesive whole, if 1 player goes out of his lane and misses which usually happen's with McNabb 1 on 1 then he has an uncontrolled escape route, but if we take away TO and force him to stay in the pocket, or run to where we are ready for him then we can really fustraight him, not to say he wont make some play's but it will continually become more difficult for him, then we have to really control the ball and take time off the clock we don't need to score everytime but we have to be able to get first down's consistantly to shorten the game which should add to his fustration of not being able to stay on the field and that's when guy's start trying to force thing's and that's when I want Taylor in the secondary, we really haven't froced team's into a must situation this season and that's when Taylor will be at his best when team's have to move the ball or their in trouble mode, Taylor should be like a lion on a wounded gazel in that secondary once that circumstance is created.

I'm sure that WIlliams has watched the game film from the last meeting and has devised some way to try to frustrate McWhatsHisName into making some bad throws. I think that for us to win this game, either special teams or defense has to score.

What I hope is that what we saw last week is classic Gibbs football. What I mean is adjustment to the team we are playing. If Gibbs can look at the game film against Philly and see what worked and what didn't, he should be able to string together a few more first downs. That, combined with fewer penalties could have won us the last game. I think that the birds could be in for a hard time tonight.:smashfrea

Guys - we owned McNabb in the first half. I really think we should have gone up by 10 points in the first half. If we can play the way we played last game only keep our defense off the field a bit longer and have some actual drives then we'll be fine!
