As Is 2 Round Dream Draft

Ok, so we've basically run the table on the "IF we took a QB at #10, Who would you take" thread

So now we're going to ask another question. Now, bear with me, there are conditions but there will be plenty of time as the weeks go by for other threads that are less restricted.

In this case, suppose we made no moves in the first 2 rounds. As in no trades.

Once round 2 is over, which two players would you be most satisfied with?

Here are mine

Round 1: QB-Jake Locker
Round 2: OG-Rodney Hudson

So, yeah after watching more Jake Locker games I'm feeling more comfortable taking him. Even at #10 which I know is maybe a bit high but we need a QB and, while I like Ponder a lot I feel he's more of a late 2nd/early 3rd round pick at this point.

Also, I'd feel comfortable reaching for Locker at 10 than reaching for Ponder at 41st overall. As I watch Ponder I see someone who can be solid right away and probably stay that way. But the more I watch of Locker, who I initially wasn't too keen on, I see someone who can be dynamic, even electrifying for years to come. Though I think he may have a bit of a slower start compared to Ponder in the NFL, his growth curve I think is greater.

Then in the 2nd round I'm going Rodney Hudson. Here's my thinking. We need help on the interior and Hudson is a perfect fit for the zone blocking scheme. Now I know we need LB help, but I don't see anyone where we pick in the 2nd round that I would draft. Maybe Akeem Ayers

So really it came down to would I prefer to take a combo like Von Miller/Christian Ponder or Jake Locker/Some other player. I went with the latter choice because a) I'm more impressed with Locker than I was just a week ago b) I'd rather reach on Locker in the first than on Ponder in the 2nd and c) I'm more willing to take my chances on say Rob Jackson lining up opposite Orakpo than Artis Hicks or even Mike Williams (who remains a question mark) at Guard

So there you have it, if we don't move draft position I'd like to end round 2 with Locker and Hudson added to our roster

And you?

Re: As Is 2 Round Dream Draft

I agree that if we draft a 1st round QB, then our 2nd round pick should be used on the best offensive lineman available. The last thing we need is for the development of our new franchise QB to be hampered because his Oline can't protect him.

Re: As Is 2 Round Dream Draft

I am higher on Ponder and more skeptical of Locker than the OP. I think Ponder is our man.

And, as much as we need help at RG, I think the defense needs more help. It would be easier to find a decent free agent guard than it would be to find the kind of help that we need on defense. Besides, maybe one of our young bucks at guard can step up and claim the spot.

Ergo:
1 - Von Miller DE
2 - Christian Ponder QB

Then we sign lots of UDFA's because the draft was only 2 rounds.

Re: As Is 2 Round Dream Draft

1st Round:
Marcell Dareus, DE - if he's gone then
Von Miller, OLB

2nd Round (in order by availability):
If no Dareus, then Paea, DT
Pouncey, G
Wisniewski, C/G
If no Dareus, Liuget, DT

Totally down with the QB/OL campaign -- offense has sucked for far too long and right now scoring points is our primary concern.

Re: As Is 2 Round Dream Draft

I'm going with how each side of the ball played this year. Offense was mediocre, defense was near the bottom of the league. Therefore:

Round 1: Von Miller (I really like him opposite Orakpo. Not only will be be good rushing the passer and dropping into coverage, he will take pressure off Orakpo because defenses won't be able to key on him so much)

Round 2: Ponder (I could also go with what SS said easily. However I like Ponder enough, and equally have as many question marks about Locker in my book to take this scenario)

Alternate Round 2: Wisniewski/Pouncey (This is contingent on trying to trade for a 4th round pick and drafting Dalton to address our QB issues)

Re: As Is 2 Round Dream Draft

I haven't really made my mind up on the QB/OL decision. Part of me is intrigued by the possibility, while the other part says, "Bigger priorities!"... but really... QB is a huge priority. We don't have one.

My only reservation is all the cheesy cliches that are going to come out if we get Locker.

A true leader, It's now his "Locker" room. It will be nauseating.

LOL. Redskins have LOCK(er)ed up a new QB.
Skins QB position has a new LOCK(er) and key.
Redskins new depth chart shows QB on LOCK(er).

Not as good as yours I know, but....

Then again we've also got a draft that contains the possibility for

Apparently, all the redskins offense needed was a little bit of "Luck"

Stronger than a hammer, Redskins "Mallet" is the new tool of choice.

Redskins grab QB Foles just in the "Nick" of time.

Skins "Ponder" grabbing a QB in the draft.

_____________

I really think your name could be Sternup Herflogfinton and they would think of something mildly clever to throw into a headline.

Re: As Is 2 Round Dream Draft

Round 1
10th pick
Cam Newton - Best Player Available and has tremendous upside at QB, Jake Locker if Cam is gone.

Round 2
Mike Pouncey- It's time to add a young center and he's a stud

Re: As Is 2 Round Dream Draft

1st: QB- Jake Locker (won't be pissed if we take Cam Newton) Either way we need to take a potential franchise QB.

2nd: WR- Justin Blackmon or Jon Baldwin (if they are gone then a DL like Cameron Heyward/Allen Bailey or a LB like Ryan Kerrigan)
