Joe Theismann Strikes Again...
I have never made any secret of the fact that I really dislike Joe Theismann's work as a color analyst for football games.
I do not deny that he knows football. What bothers me is that he just does not know when he has said enough about something and then goes on and on about it. Here is yet one more example... Joe was adamantly defending Jay Cutler along Radio/TV row in Dallas earlier this week. Joe was saying that Cutler was indeed hurt in the Packers game and that people had been unfairly piling on him for missing the second half of the game. Theismann's point was that Cutler is a "different kind of guy" and that because he isn't like the typical player, he is being judged differently than someone else who missed part of a game due to injury. Good. Joe has an opinion and made his case and offered his analysis. Then he went on to compare Jay Cutler to - - - wait for it - - - Jeff George in terms of skill and personality. If you were Jay Cutler, you had to like the first part of Joe's comments but then he just had to keep on talking... Theismann on Cutler: 'He's a different kind of guy' - Chicago Breaking Sports

Re: Joe Theismann Strikes Again...
I never understood the Joe Theisman hate from Redskins fans. Is it because he didn't rip Dan Snyder everytime somebody put a mic in his face ?
We are a sad sad bunch I tell you.

Re: Joe Theismann Strikes Again...
First of all, I certainly do not hate Joe Theismann. I do not like him as a color analyst for football games at all - - but that is a mile and a half short of "hating" Joe Theismann.
I said that the reason I disliked him was that he never knew when to "give it a rest". Until you brought it up, I had not realized that he was never critical of Danny Boy.

Re: Joe Theismann Strikes Again...
I think JT is a terrible color analyst. It is really painful listening to him. I love what he did as a player and I do not have a problem with him as a person.
Why must you love every single thing about a former Redskin to be considered a true fan? Do you have to be blind and without opinion to be a true supporter?

As for Joey T, he's not that great of a color guy, but I would much rather listen to him call a game rather than Brian Baldwinger or Bill Maas (which is probably in jail now anyways.)

Yeah i dont hate JT either, i really like him for everything hes done..... except his color analyst role. 2 things suck about preseaon games to me; Theyre worthless, and JT is in the booth.

This. What really made me sick, is up until just recently, I really liked... Troy Aikman as an announcer. This year though, he started bugging the hell out of me. Moose Johnston is pretty good though.

Re: Joe Theismann Strikes Again...
JT compares Cutler to Jeff George, which plenty of people have before, and this is news?

Terrible tv skills. I feel like these ex-NFL-er's feel like because they played in the league they are the end all on football opinions. (eg..Trent Dilfer) Plus, the fact JT only lasted one season on Monday Night Football tells you about him as a broadcaster. CSN is no ESPN.

"Moose" is starting to get very near the point where he too fails to realize when it is time to shut up and let the audience see what is on the screen for themselves. I hope he dials it back a bit next season.

But if your intention is to "defend" Jay Cutler and to say that he is being treated "unfairly", I think you should come up with a better comparison than Jeff George. Remember it was Jeff George who infamously said that "leadership is overrated"... Granted, Theismann's commentary here is not nearly as bad as Marge Schott saying Hitler was good at the beginning but then things got out of hand. But it is still rather inept.

Re: Joe Theismann Strikes Again...
Some used to say that George was misunderstood as well, perhaps the angle he was going for but didn't get that point across well.

Re: Joe Theismann Strikes Again...
I don't mind JT, there's worse analysts out there. I can see why some find him annoying though.

Re: Joe Theismann Strikes Again...
Joe has been one of my favs since the glory days.
He's always good for some controversy. And Cutler is a whiney twerp anyways.
