Judgement Day: T2 Style.....
Okay Ill start this off by stating this might make me sound a little crazy…….
As im sure most of you know and what I realized this morning is that April 21, 2011 (TODAY!) is the day Skynet began its attack on the human race…… About a month ago I read a Time article call 2045: The Year Man Becomes Immortal, which lead me to a book called The Singularity Is Near (which of course I didn’t waste my time reading; however, I did skim the wiki page). In the wiki page it listed a timeline of events (shown below) the author deems likely. I think everything up to 2025 seems reasonably possible (even if it takes 50 years longer to happen). After that point maybe its more speculation, but nothing really seems completely improbable (even if the times are way off). Something else that the Time article and the book are also obviously about is the progression of technology and medical advances (even under Obamacare) at some point a certain group of people (rich people & citizens of rich countries) are going to become essentially immortal or in the least there will be a massive disparity between a rich country vs. a poor county’s lifespan average (150years vs. 50). So I guess my thoughts is when do you say okay we are no longer going to keep you alive artificially you are X number of years old; its time for you to live with no meds or other life sustaining products that will be available in the future. No real questions here. Just rambling thoughts. Whenever I watch a movie like Terminator or iRobot I was like sure, but that’s a thousand years away…. Now im not so sure. I honestly felt sad the first time I read the timeline and thought that its actually possible in my lifetime that bad things could happen with robots. Will the trade offs for pornbots, maidbots and bestfriendbots be worth it if there are also deathbots? Re: Judgement Day: T2 Style.....
I'll take the "not so crazy" side.
I saw this guy interviewed the other day (colbert I think). The basic premise is that technology is growing exponentially. He says we now make more technological advances in a few months than we used to in a century. A kid in Africa with a smartphone has more tools and information than the president did 15 years ago. Actually pretty interesting. I'm more concerned with how the Warpath will look in 2045. |

Hmmm...Did you happen to see the robot that threw out the first pitch at the Phillie's game yesterday 4/20/2011? I say we are far cry from being dominated by the T-1000's.

In the 1950's, people thought we would all be driving hovercars by now.

Re: Judgement Day: T2 Style.....
The Singularity concept is rather accepted with scientific circles but the the "world dominated by machines" notion really isn't.
