Possible Free Agent...
At some point, free agency will exist again. When that happens, connect these dots...
1. The Eagles took a kicker from Nebraska in Round 4 and David Akers is a free agent.

Re: Possible Free Agent...
^ I really think Shanahan and Smith alike are high on Gano. Shanahan continued to inspire the kid last season even when he missed critical kicks. I think the faith is there, he's young where Akers is getting along in years.

Re: Possible Free Agent...
You don't draft a kicker in the 4th without his being your guy. Akers is gone from Philly. I'd rather ride with Gano, though - his name tells you that he's a winner!

I agree that the coaches seem high on Gano. They are going to give him another season to prove his worth.

Re: Possible Free Agent...
As in most cases, when the Eagles feel someones best days are behind them, they get rid of them. No reason for us to try to bring him in. He didn't kick up to his standards last season. I say we give Gano a shot again this season, but if he is struggling AGAIN then we need to find someone else. Gano was horrible last year. I hated to see the guy kick anything from 30+ yards. He was just so inaccurate and so inconsistent.

Re: Possible Free Agent...
Akers was 32/38 last year, I'd take that kind of production.

Re: Possible Free Agent...
OH really, I didn't know he was that good. I thought I heard of him struggling for stretches. But if that is the case, then i guess i retract my statement. Maybe it was magnified by his playoff performance. Didn't he miss a few in a playoff game? |

Re: Possible Free Agent...
He missed two FGs in the playoff game between Philly and Green Bay. The rest of the year he was 32 for 36.
Akers is old; Gano is young. In 2014, Gano may still be kicking; Akers will probably not. In 2011, however...

Re: Possible Free Agent...
I'd rather have Gano. We remember the kicks he blew like the second attempt vs. Houston or his misses to lose the Giants and Bucs games, but he actually hit as many game-winners than games he blew.
He hit OVERTIME game-winners against Tennessee, Green Bay. He also seemed to improve (except for that Giants game) after Hunter Smith was cut. He's young and can hit some bombs...we missed that with Suisham's questionable 39-yard range. Gano hit from 49, 48 twice, 46 and 45 multiple times. Perfect 28/28 on PATs...again, remember Suisham?
