Re: Worst Pitching Performance Ever
Oh yeah, demoted to the Minors after the game too.
Why would any manager leave a pitcher in for that? He's probably ruined forever now.

Fail by the manager for leaving him in there that long.

Re: Worst Pitching Performance Ever
Just awful. The Royals hadn't used any bullpen pitchers since Friday night, after getting rained out Sunday and getting a complete game from their starter Saturday. So, it's not like they were desperate for a long relief appearance to give other relievers a break.

Or John Smoltz in 2001 when he posted a 43.20 ERA against the Mets as a relief pitcher.

Re: Worst Pitching Performance Ever
Feel like I, as resident Royals fan, should comment on this.
Long story short, Vin Mazzaro was the Royals second starting pitcher of the game. The first one left with injury and hit the DL today. And 90% of the damage in that inning happened with 2 outs in about 20 pitches. Any team that can hit around their order in 20-30 pitches is doing something right. Why he was sent out for the next inning to give up the next four baserunners, I have no f-ing idea.

Re: Worst Pitching Performance Ever
I guess what I'm saying is that there's no book to manage by when TOMORROW'S STARTING PITCHER gives up 10 ER in one inning of today's game. By that point, you're treading in first-ever territory. You could call it Mazzaro World.

Re: Worst Pitching Performance Ever
I wonder if he was scheduled to be sent down BEFORE this debacle...that might explain why the manager did not care.
