Redskins scouting update
We are reorganizing our scouting:
Redskins hire new scout - NFL - Yahoo! Sports Do people have a sense of what kind other kinds of reorganization we might be doing in scouting? I'm very interested. It has struck me that the single best thing that we can do to improve our team is to invest in and upgrade our scouting infrastructure. But you rarely hear of such things in ordinary news resources.

Re: Redskins scouting update
Doesn't mention that Bill Baker, the previous Southeast Scout is retiring.
We've been rumored to be making some changes at the Scott Campbell level for a while but it just hasn't happened. Maybe because of the lockout I guess. I don't keep up with that area as much as I once did

Re: Redskins scouting update
After seeing how this years draft class turns out I may change my opinion about our scouting dept. Of course in the past I wasn't sure whether Vinny even paid attention to what they had to say.

Re: Redskins scouting update
It still troubles me hearing that at the combine we had a bunch of old bumbling around guys as scouts. They might know football well though.

Re: Redskins scouting update
Personally if it's the same group that has been working with the Skins through the Cerrato years..... let them all go. Bring in some young smart guys.

Re: Redskins scouting update
It's not just WHO we have, although that is important. It is also WHAT we have in terms of investment. My understanding is that we invest little in terms of funding, equipment, etc., in our scouting. We're not quite the Bengals but still.

Re: Redskins scouting update
Like every team we have a mix of old and young scouts. That report made it seem like they all use walkers. Far from it.

Re: Redskins scouting update
Don't care if they all use walkers - - - as long as they don't need trifocals and can see the players they are scouting.
No one measures or cares about the scouting staff's time in the 40...

Re: Redskins scouting update
It's kind of funny because one of the things Cerrato did when we truly took over was promoted a lot of inexperienced people to scouting positions. The "reasoning" was to give well-deserving youngsters their opportunity. Some of that was probably certainly true, but perhaps as big a reason was VC wanting to make sure there were people he could control.
But I mean originally Doug Williams was suppose to come and (along with Mo Brown most likely) revamp the scouting department, then that didn't happen. Then it was one of the Goodmans (if not both) that MS worked with in Denver. That hasn't materialized. Scott Campbell is probably the luckiest guy in Redskins Park. He's a hard worker, no doubt. But he doesn't really wow anyone and his ceiling is probably where it's at, yet he survives administration after administration. Likely because he's a good foot soldier who doesn't get in anyone's way
