Vick $100million contract...I'm sorry?
It has just been anounced that Vick has been handed a $100mil contract with over $37mil bonuses over 10 years... He was only drafted 3 years ago in 2001 and how many games did he play last year?
I sorry but this hs to be a joke right sure he is electrifying and everything bu...but...but 100million after three years??? Manning I could accept he has shown how good his is year after year but Vick after three years.. and he has only played probaably 1 and a half real football seasons in that .... What do you guys think assuming it is no joke? |

Who do you think is filling up the stadium in ATL? People are watching this team because of him. This definitely sets bad precedence though.

Yeah, he's worth it in merchandise alone. Easily the most exciting player in the NFL. He has a rocket for an arm and scrambles better than anyone in the league. Once he learns how to harness his arm he'll be an unstoppable force.

From a "football perspective" this is a risky deal because Vick has not yet shown that he is a great QB. He is a "great running QB" but that is not what has won championships in the past.
From a financial perspective this is a smart move by the Falcons' ownership. Vick fills the seats in Atlanta and that is not a town that supports most of its pro sports teams very well - even if they do win. Look at the Braves. They did not sell out their PLAYOFF games for the last two seasons! If I'm the owner, this is a smart deal for me; if I'm the coach, I might not be quite so thrilled at the moment...

Com'on, this guy is the reason Atlanta is winning. Did anyone watch him with VT when he played for the National championship? The guy almost won the game by himself. He is a money maker and a playmaker. He may not take the Falcons to the superbowl, but he will make them a competative playoff team as long as he stays away from the major injury bug.
I do agree that he is not a prototype superbowl QB, but I don't believe I have ever seen a QB (in any league) with the skills this guy has. Think about it, would you rather have Payton Manning or Vick on the 40 yard line in an overtime game? I think that Manning is worth the money and I would have a hard time picking between them...

Theres no doubt in my mind that Id rather have Manning at the 40 yd line in overtime.
I think the falcons have limited his growth by trying new systems every year. They need to develop a Vick system and let him mature. As soon as he start passing the pass on the run then look out. Look how much better McNabb is now that he thinks about passing first, and he will run around for forever making sure that no one is open. You know when vick will pull the ball down. Hes making big plays with his legs, and the defense knows it, they all break off their guys to try and tacht them. Imagine when starts getting them to break off their man then he throws a deep ball to a wide open guy. Thats when he becomes a HUGE threat.

Agreed, the most dangerous potential for a QB is being able through bombs down the field right into the receivers hands, like Peyton does.... scrambling qb's have a great advantage with their mobility and ability to run, but the most dangerous threat is throwing bombs... i think Vick will pick that up soon... look at McNabb.. took him a while.

Don't underestimate Vick's arm. He has a rocket, just needs to harness it.

Atlanta has been pretty good in the two years he's been the full time starter. His first contract was 62 million over 6 years, so this contract isn't much different, except for the huge signing bonus.

Vick hasen't proven anything other than he's fast and can scramble, winning put's fan's in the seat's, to give that kind of money to a QB who's only attribute is running is very risky considering Vick does not take hit's very well he is not a durable QB, defiently not in the McNabb, Culpepper mold, he is a lot of fun to watch though, if they feel his worth as far as fan support can justify this deal than good for them, I just have my doubt's about him becoming a big time QB, I believe that the Falcon's would still be where they are with an adequet QB behind center, they are a very balanced team.

Well, they did get into the playoffs when he wasn't hurt. Question, is Manning a big time QB? Vick is a stud and I honestly would rather have him driving my team. With very good CBs Manning can be managed. With Vick, you'll have to choose between stopping his passing game or his running game.

He's done nothing so far........he's not even very exciting this year. And he's ALWAYS hurt..................There are a lot of QBs I'd rather have than Vick.............

Vick is officially the most overpaid and overrated athlete in sports

I love how he get's hurt for a majority of a season (where he could have played earlier but no sense in rushing him for they had no playoff chances) and he's "always injured"
He sells seats, he sells jerseys, and you sure as hell don't want to defend him! |

Yes, I admit he keeps the Atlanta fans in the stands which is very difficult just ask the Braves, Hawks, and Falcon teams before Vick...........
But you can't rely on him..........every season he gets hurt...............I just don't think he's worth that much money...........and I'd rather have other QBs than Vick...... |
