How Redskins get in Playoffs
I know there is another thread about this, but this CNN scenario/explaination is alot easier to understand:
If Washington can win at Dallas this week, and the following pieces fall into place, the Redskins would be able to control their own fate and qualify for the playoffs with a Week 17 victory at home against Minnesota (which may already have the NFC North and a No. 3 seed wrapped up at that point): First, the Redskins have to beat the Cowboys (which is plausible). Tampa Bay would have to win at home against Carolina (could happen). Cincinnati would have to beat the visiting Giants (should happen). Atlanta would have to win at New Orleans (might happen). And Philadelphia would have to win at St. Louis (will happen). We'll pause a moment as you pick yourself back up off the floor. |

Thread #6 about this. I'm more worried about the cowboys game then all of the other ones. Someone care to remind me the last time we beat Dallas? I hate to say it, but we need to look at ourselves first then outward. That scenario could certainly come true!

Yeah.. Dallas will be a very tough task...
Im also worried that Atlanta isnt going to play Vick or Algae Crumpler.. i dont know how they will fare without motivation...

Enough already. The probability of this happening is not good at all. Anyone that has ever played a 4 team parlay knows, it is so much harder to hit than it looks. Any given Sunday as they say, and with reason. The mathematical probability is far from being in our favor. And any betting man, would not touch the Skins making the playoffs with a ten foot pole. Sorry to be a grinch, but the thread is so very old. In the unlikely reality all these things fall in to place, what is the point? How far can the Skins go with an offense that goes 3 times without a TD in the redzone against the niners. I've packed it in. Save yourself any further heartbrake and do the same.

I just want to beat Dallas and then the Vik's. If we get into the playoffs, great. If we can win these last three games and show growth, I'll be a happy man. We can't control those other games, so we need to control ours. Lets just get past Dallas and see where we are.

Exactly, we just need to win out. If we make the playoffs great if not we are playing for hope for next year and look out. Truth is we dont belong in the playoffs if we dont have at least a 8-8 record. I am just worried about beating Dallas at this point. I am SICK and TIRED of losing to the cowpukes.

Well even if the saints win we need carolina to lose then the saints can lose on the last week and we should be in.. we dont have to control our own destiny to get in on the last week we need the rams and carolina or the saints to lose this week then they play each other next week and if the right one wind then we are in. look i aint giving up playoff hopes til they say we are mathmatically eliminated..

I would love for us to get in the playoffs and cause some havoc but unfortunately it doesn't look to good. Next year will be our year hopefully. All i can say is that we have a super bowl defense but need some help on the offensive side of the ball to contend in the playoffs. They need to take a page out of the broncos playbook on how to use clinton and we should be alright.

Welcome to the group "Big Hurt"!
I agree that we need to look a little closer at the way Denvers line worked for Portis. The problem is that those guys have gelled in a consistant system for years. Give us a couple more years under Gibbs and let Bugle find another lineman or two and you C.P. will be hitting the 5 yard average again. We still need another heavyweight back for the goal line.

i understand what your saying manicd but i have to disagree with you on some things. 1-the skins (if they were to make the playoffs) might do better than you think, yes they struggled against the 49ers last week but the 49ers actually have a good defense. the skins have a great d and the o is getting better each game. 2-never pack it in until there is no hope. the thing that gets everyone excited at the beggining of the season is the hope of making the post season. while the skins chances are slim, there is still a chance and until there is NO CHANCE i won't "pack it in" skins fan 44, you say the skins don't belong in the playoffs unless they have a record of 8-8, well the reality is , in the nfc , the last wild card spot is going to a team with a losing record , the skins deserve it just as much as any other team |

The NFC this year makes it anyone's game once you make the post season. This is a year I could see the NFC wildcard in the Super Bowl! LETS GO SKINS!

you know we have been saying 'As long as we win out' for the last six weeks or so. It just happens to be a miracle that we even still hvae a chance.

If we dont make the playoffs, the redskins season will be over in 9 days.... and we will spend 8 months wishing and hoping for the Redskins to make the playoffs in 2005.... that being said, I (and a lot of people on the 'path) are using our last days of the regular season hoping for the playoffs.. i mean we still have a chance, and its okay to dream, so dream away skins fans!
