Scud's Studs (Redskins vs Ravens)

This is the debut of what will be a weekly thread throughout the season. It's the ying to SmootSmack's yang with the Smoot Laying the Smack Down thread. Scud's Studs will focus on who stood out in a positive way on a game by game basis.

Let's get right into it.

Ryan Kerrigan: I think it's pretty obvious he was a good selection at 16 overall. He's got sacks in back to back weeks now. That spin move he had coming off the right tackle in the first half was awesome. He then charged laterally down the line and made a solid tackle. On replay, you could hear Jaws say "woah." He needs to clean up the neutral zone infractions, but I think that's just a function of rushing the passer out of a two-point stance. He's not used to having that much weight on the balls of his feet without a hand in the dirt. That will go away over time.

Terrence Austin: 5 catches, 71 yards, and a touchdown. Plus he's a dynamic return man. Welcome to the 53-man roster, Terrence. Glad to have you.

Kevin Barnes: Looked good in the nickel, had a very nice sack and four solo tackles. Once Wilson and Landry are 100% and Phillip Buchanon is off suspension, I think we'll have a pretty solid secondary.

Rex Grossman: Solid 1st half, good decision making, quick release, gorgeous 24 yard TD to Santana. Fantastic 2 minute drill. Now I see why Shanny benched McNabb at the end of the Lions game last year. Beck was solid, too. Interesting competition.

Graham Gano: I know it was one kick, but it was a 48 yarder. He's had a very good preseason. I'm hopeful that we may have some stability at the kicking position for years to come. It's been a while since we've been able to say that around here.

So who are your stud's from last night's game?

Yours are definitely ones I agree with, and I wish I had the DVR recording right here, but there was this DT playing most of the game I've never heard of that was getting GREAT push through most of the game.

I will definitely agree with all of the above, particularly Austin.

It's been a long time since I've been SURE that if a ball hits a receiver in the hands they're going to catch it.

3-4 D-Line: I think the d-line did a heck of a job harassing Flacco, Rice, and Ricky Williams. This unit is going to get better as they continue to play together. It seems that we finally have an adequate 3-4 defensive line to help Orakpo and London.

Kool Aid Drinker!

I'll add the offensive line. Particularly TW and Jammal Brown. They've really done a very solid job with run blocking

Kerrigan....chasing down from behind! Gotta get his jersey..how long is his deal?

Both QB's looked good. I don't really care as much about who as it appears either one can do it...nice problem to have
Trent for pounding Ray ray to the turf in the Hightower run.

If your a Skins fan you have to feel good about what you are seeing....HTTR

Hightower...I think he's been the stud of Preseason so far. You dont see a guy run like that against the first team Ravens

My stud has to be my wife who finally managed to stay awake for an entire preseason game.

Seriously though I have to give props to the offensive and defensive lines. It is amazing how much of a difference line play makes.

If we end up being one of the best rushing teams this year, the improved ability of Williams and Brown on the edges (compared to Week 1 last year). Night and day.

I also thought that Trent had a good game in pass protection in his one on ones, but we're clearly down blocking a lot more often then we'd like to in order to protect him from being in space against a guy like T Sizzle.

It was Cofield.

Cofield swims past the center. Ricky Williams pretty much saved Joe Flacco's life on that play, because Cofield woulda destroyed Flacco otherwise.

Re: Scud's Studs (Redskins vs Ravens)

TW had a really nice game this week to bounce back from a bad game last week. Now if he can just be consistent every week, we'll be set there.

I pretty much agree with all the players listed above. But there is one player I haven't seen mentioned yet, and that's Sav Rocca. A 60+ yard punt that goes out of bounds at the 4 yard line? Holy shit that was nice. Now I know he did have that one punt at the end that was returned because it didn't have enough hangtime but still, this guy has shown this preseason that he's very solid.

Rocca did have a good outing...I just don't understand why he didn't punt that ball out of bounds at the end. I mean, I would hope that he doesn't do that during the regular season. Although the entire 3rd team seemed to be running at slow motion during the 4th quarter.
