Just a thought....

I know there is alot of people here who love Pierce but since he is a restricted free agent maybe we should let someone else make him an offer before we try to sign him longterm. If he would get picked up he still get a draft pick for him, plus we still have Barrow. Also, we could even go after another free agent MLB like Ed Hartwell. I think if Hartwell wasn't in Ray Ray's shadow he could be a pro bowl MLB. I know there won't be many supporters of this idea but I thought I would throw it out there.

Pierce was restricted last year, this year he is unrestricted.. He was the heart and soul of the defense. You don't just let people like that go, especailly when they are young, relatively cheap and he wants to be a Redskin.

I agree. Not only was he the heart and soul, he also made extremely quick decisions and made sure that everyone was where they were supposed to be.

Even if he was restricted since he was an undrafted free agent we wouldn't get any compensation in return.

unless we get a tender for him or whatever. ogunleye was undrafted as well, and it took a 1st and 3rd to get him if someone wanted him

Ogunleye was traded while under contract. He was holding out for a bigger contract. The Dolphins received Marty Booker and a draft pick for him.

This sounds like "Dan Snyder" logic - but thankfully, we have Joe Gibbs making the personnel decisions these days...

that is right, but the reason no1 signed him in the offseason was because the compensation was a 1st and 3rd rounder...thats why we didnt go after him when he was a free agent.

I would be more in favor of keeping a key central player like Pierce around. As long as an amicable agreement can be worked out with Smoot, I'd like to see him stick around too. Playing 'musical football players' with the Daniel has been a major downfall of this team since he (the Daniel) took ownership.

Also, letting a player who gave his team 110% each and every week get traded or let go sends a bad message in my opinion.

...and so does asking for ridiculous bonuses (with regard to Smoot).
