Confession: I want the Skins to lose to Seattle.
Yes, I'm a horrible fan because I actually want the Skins to lose to Seattle.
I admit it. But, at least, my motive is as pure as the driven slush. It's because this season is lost, we're finally rebuilding, and I believe that this is the draft class where we will be able to acquire our Franchise QB - if we have a high enough draft pick. Since this season is lost, at this point there is no way that I want Seattle to finish with a worse record than ours. If they draft before we do, I can easily imagine them snatching away the QB we so desperately need. Let them win on Sunday and we'll score big in the draft. Look, if Landry Jones and RGIII stay in school, that leaves us with one shot at our franchise QB - we need to draft Matt Barkley. There is no way we'll get him if Seattle (or Miami, for that matter) drafts ahead of us. This season is lost, so forget about it. I actually hope we finish with the second worst record in the league and end up having our choice of Barkley, Landry, or RGIII. That way, no other team can get the next QB after the POS Colts draft Luck and we won't need to give up picks to move up. Plus we'll be drafting very high in the remaining rounds. If we don't get the QB we need, we're all going to be miserable for a lot longer than the rest of this season. Last edited by KI Skins Fan; 11-22-2011 at 01:27 PM. |

I wouldn't mind if this thread is taken down or merged.
I'm simply wondering if others share my shameful secret desire to lose enough now to get a Franchise QB so we can win big later. |

Re: I am a horrible, rotten excuse for a Redskins fan.
Skins could easily lose this game, they play horrible SEA historically. I too hope they lose, we need that draft pick desperately.
I realize MS and company can't think this way but as a fan I can!

Re: I am a horrible, rotten excuse for a Redskins fan.
No offense, this seems like some of the logic that a few others on ES are having. Needless to say it's idiotic.
You actually have guys thinking you'll get a better draft pick the more you lose. Guess what? Just because you pick high, doesn't mean or guarantee that pick will ever pan out. Should I go down the list of top 5 QBs that have become bust? If there was a guarantee that we would score big on that draft pick then I could see the reasoning behind it. As it is though, the draft is a crap shoot. There are too many factors that are in play that determine whether a prospect fails at the next level. So why wish your team lose when there is so much uncertainty in a draft pick? It's disheartening to see fans think they are looking at the "long run" of this franchise when they hope we lose out to secure a better draft pick. It's the current excuse they are using to justify wishing this team loses the remaining games. I would link you to some of the moronic ramblings, but stupidity is a disease that spreads unfortunately.

The "violation of morals" argument against cheering for your team does have some credence. The argument that having a higher pick is not better than a lower pick has no credence. Between a 50% chance of "failing" and a 4% chance of making it, I'll take the 50%.

Re: I am a horrible, rotten excuse for a Redskins fan.
I'll never root or wish for the Skins to lose during a game, but I've gotta say after the Cowboys game this week I didn't feel bad at all. A couple of more wins only hurts us at this point.

Therefore, I always go with value based decisions. Albeit such risk factor analysis of award v. detriment for top 10 draft picks has been hedged with the new but yet to be applied slotting system.

Russell is one of those 50% who fail. 4% failures are guys like Painter, Hoyer, John Beck. Russell hurt them for three years, but his poor play is part of the reason why Darren McFadden and Rolondo McClain are on that team, both critical components on their respective side of the ball. For the GM making the pick, the only thing that might dissuade them from gambling like that on a QB is job security.

Re: I am a horrible, rotten excuse for a Redskins fan.
I'm with you. This season is done. Get the young guys some experience, pack it in, get that high pick. We need the QB of the future. Winning only hurts us at this point.
In addition, since they've put the rookie wage scale into effect, a high round pick busting isn't nearly as detrimental to the team as they used to be.

Re: I am a horrible, rotten excuse for a Redskins fan.
I dispise losing, but I'll be honest with you.... last week with Skins/Dallas week ... it just didn't have the same feel. I was pretty much resolved the Skins would lose and most likely lose bad. I watched Davis's fumble and then Dallas score and I left to do the brakes on my truck. I did listen by radio though. After the brakes I took the truck to Jiffy Lube and they had the game on so I was kinda stuck watching it. When I got home I finished watching the game.
I'll be happy if they win and happy if they lose at this point cause I really want the Skins to get a high draft pick, but I definitly don't want them to get blown out. If they keep it close and look like they are actually playing then I'll be interested but if they come out and show the typical 3 and out and a couple INT's I'll be pissed as usual. |

Re: I am a horrible, rotten excuse for a Redskins fan.
wrong thread for this but I don't understand why RGIII won't come out? I hear that a lot, but seems like his stock is high, he is not an underclassman - i think- so what would keep him there?
