Redskins FA's: Who's staying & who's not..?
Tim Hasselbeck QB ERFA Redskins
Andre Lott DB ERFA Redskins John Simon RB ERFA Redskins Ron Warner DL ERFA Redskins Pat Dennis DB RFA Redskins Demetric Evans DL RFA Redskins Todd Franz DB RFA Redskins Lemar Marshall LB RFA Redskins Antonio Pierce LB RFA Redskins Fred Smoot DB RFA Redskins Ray Brown OL UFA Redskins Rock Cartwright RB UFA Redskins Chris Clemons LB UFA Redskins Kenyatta Jones OL UFA Redskins Brian Kozlowski TE UFA Redskins Joe Salave'a DL UFA Redskins Michael Sellers TE UFA Redskins Here's who I see coming back in '05 TE Kozlowski (if Cooley plays more H-back) DL Salave'a (just another playing piece of Williams excellent D scheme) LB Pierce (Kid was off the hook leading the D with 112 tackles & a PB selection) CB Smoot (a must, Smoot needs to prove that Bailey was more hype) DB Lott (career backup at best) DB Franz (another NFL Europe project gone good) OL Brown (old, but still a tree to move, Jansen at 100% leaves Brown where he belongs, warming the bench in late Dec.) QB Hasselbeck (who else is going to backup, QB Dan Orlovsky?) RB Rock (if the Skins don't plan to draft a RB?) LB Clemons (another viable backup) DL Evans (NFL Europe help Evans become the Skins starting DE in '04) LB Marshall (Marshall had a career season with the Skins & that should earn him another tour with the Skins) What's your thoughts...?

I'd love to see Clemons being a 3rd DE/decoy. If he played all year I bet he would have topped 10+ sacks. Fast as LIGHTENING.

Kenyatta Jones was the unheralded star of the line. How can you bash him, he's a hero!

I suspect that Clemons and Salave'a will get some offers as UFAs. So I think that the Skins will have to treat both of these guys as "budget items" and see if they can afford to keep them. Given no cap restrictions, I'm pretty sure that the team would want both of them.
I think that the Skins will keep either Simon or Cartwright - whichever one they think is the better Special Teams player. Smoot's staying or going is completely dependent on the money. I don't think he will get a deal similar to the one that Champ got in Denver but I can see him pulling down a nice $12-14M signing bonus for a 6 year deal. Will the Skins match that? I worry about losing Evans and/or Marshall; both of these guys did a lot of good things during the year that were underappreciated.

I gotta think that Smoot is looking for elite CB money.
He won't find that anywhere. That said. he won't even come close to signing with the Redskins. |

I feel for poor Rock Cartwright, he just wasn't a fit in Gibbs' system.
