Relatives that played in the NFL

Just wanted to see if any forum member is related to a former or current NFL player. I also wanted to share my connection and maybe take a break from this mayhem called the offseason.

My Great Uncle J.D. Smith (OT) played for the Eagles (don't hate him) & Lions back in the 60's. He won the 1960 Championship and Offensive Rookie of the Year. His team was the only team to beat Lombardi's Packers in the Playoffs. He played on the same team as Sonny Jurgensen, Norm Van Brocklin & Chuck Bednarik. His career didn't last long after he suffered a broken leg.

It was amazing to hear his stories of his wars on the line. It was also nice to see him honored during the Packers-Eagles game (2010) at halftime.

Re: Relatives that played in the NFL

I know RobH has a cousin in the NFL (I think he's still in the NFL)

That's pretty awesome about your uncle. You should ask him if he'd like to share some stories with us

I wish I could but he's a good ol boy that doesn't go on the net too much. Maybe I could interview him and post it on youtube. Funny thing is, he doesn't watch football anymore.

Post some questions you want me to ask him.

Another HoFer he played with: WR Tommy McDonald

Mohammed Massaquai and Mike Tolbert are a couple relatives of mine. Mohammed I grew up with, Mike haven't seen too much of him recently.

Shameless self-promotion. It is what it is.

This. lol. I don't have any relatives who play in the NFL but I do share the same last name as someone who plays for the Trail Blazers.

Yeah, it's Joey Haynos who was a Terp. He's how RobH and I figured out we're quasi-related: Joey is my great-aunt's nephew through marriage or something like that.

My uncle's godfather was Big Jim Ricca.
