Another DE on the market - - NO THANKS!

The story is that Alonzo Spellman wants a comeback in the NFL. Don't worry, he has been released from prison on those pesky charges that he threatened and menaced the passengers on a commercial flight a few years ago. Dont worry, his bipolar disroder is under control with meds.

Here's what you worry about: Danny Boy had the chance to ignore Darryl Russell a year ago and he didn't.

Be afraid. Be very afraid...

I saw a special on him on Real Sports with Bryant Gumbell. I do not want him here, but he is in fabulous shape. I'm sure he isn't the player he could have been or was anymore. Wish him the best with his comeback.

I think that the personnel decision making process is led by Joe Gibbs and the staff, with Snyder having input. I think Snyder has gotten wiser about his lack of football background, he has heard the criticisms of his past actions, and to his great credit has listened and changed. That is showing himself to be a leader much more than anything else he has done. He seems unwilling to try to push anything over on Gibbs. So if we bring anyone in, I really am confident it won't be because Snyder decided to pull rank.

The last time I heard his name I believe he was arrested for walking down a highway somewhere naked, I think he had some real issues.

As long as Gibbs is running the show personnel wise I wouldn't worry about him coming here.

He's going to have a difficult time finding work anywhere in the NFL, no matter how desperate a team is.

He was definitely a great player...

All that there SHOULD be of him is memories.

The guy is a monster physically. He was pretty good before his breakdown. That story of him wigging out on a plane is pretty scary. A guy his size out of his mind is not a pleasant thought.

SKINSnCANES:

Spellman WAS a top shelf defensive end about 7 or 8 years ago. Last I recall, he was with the Lions in either 00 or 01 and then came his "minor problem" on the airplane. He also had stops with the Vikings and the Bears along the way.

offiss:

I don't know if Spellman is the guy who was naked on the highway. The guy I remember who was involved in a situation that is close to that decription was Leon Smith. Leon was drafted out of HS into the NBA and he had a few "contact with reality problems" of his own. Hwas arrested for walking down a highway naked and carrying a knife/hatched/whatever and claimed he was out to find Christopher Columbus. [Memo to Leon: He's dead.] :smashfrea

FWIW, Leon is also going to try to make a comeback and is playing in either the CBA or the ABA or one of those "minor basketball leagues".

Spellman had an incident on a plane and he also locked himself down in his house with a gun I believe. Not sure about the naked on the highway. Not sure if it was him or not but I remember hearing something about him trying to walk from Detroit to Vegas.
