2000's Patriots VS. 1980's Redskins
I posed this question to espn's Greg Garber earlier and here's the response I got. Do you see it as well? Will Joe do it again??
http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=7179 davis (dallas texas): Greg, This Pats team bears a striking resemblence to a very dominant team of the 80's that was orchestrated by Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs. Fundamentaly sound in every aspect, little to no mistakes, several less than household names coming together as one to play for the team and not themselves, not very flashy but effective, and so on... Do you see the comparison, and do you see any other team doing it in the near future? Greg Garber: (2:33 PM ET ) David: Nice observation. They DO remind me of those Gibbs' Redskins. I covered the NY Giants during their eight-year SB run and was always impressed with Gibbs' teams. Belichick and Gibbs might be the most anal-retentive, detail-oriented coaches in the history of the game. |

...very accurate comparison. Belichick is doing all this in todays nfl with the salray cap and free agency. he also has a quaterback who as the sports junkis put it "has been touched by god". Brady had a 103 temperature the night before the conference championship game and put up 41 points on the number 1 ranked defense in the league. let's see Gibbs do it next year!! I think we will see Ramsey's emergance as a solid quaterback in '05.

Gibbs just got his feet wet last year, and so did Ramsey

I see bright things in our future. itll be nice not having to worry about the draft and just saying we'll take best available with the 32nd pick, lol

The difference between the 2 team's is this, the Pat's have a better QB, and a better defensive scheme than we had. We know have a great defensive coordinator in William's, and Gibb's has IMO the best talent at QB let's see what he can do with them.

NO! I am saying he's more talented than William's, Rypien, with a better arm than Theisman I think he will prove out to be the best Gibb's has had to work with. |

I'll say something controversial.
I think that in a couple of years, Ramsey will be better than Brady.

Each of these coaches has a similar philosophy about their players. I heard one of the Pats players say they were a bunch of "no name guys" that didn't care if they got any credit as long as they won.........That sounds a lot like Joe Gibb's, "REDSKIN KINDA GUYS".
