Re: Former Redskins Discuss Concussions and Lawsuits
Not sure how these guys can ever prove that their issues are NFL related and not from college or High School playing days.

Re: Former Redskins Discuss Concussions and Lawsuits
they can't. all you have to do is look at how the VA works with proving disability... they check you when you come in (to the military), check you when you leave, determine the difference and there you go.
if you don't claim something and get it checked out, after a couple years it's basically impossible and never going to happen. and i doubt these guys did extensive mental health screenings yearly (though its possible physical exams were done and recorded in detail, though i don't know how rigorous NFL teams or players were about that stuff in the 80s/90s) to show a clear delta directly related to their nfl career. they may just be trying for a settlement, but (i'm not a lawyer) i don't see how they can win these cases without proving the nfl basically lied to them (which honestly wouldn't have stopped any of them from playing anyways) or was neligent in its own self directed ignorance of the problem. both are probably true, but hard to prove so far after the fact. the lawyer fees and billable hours could push this thing on for years though. they'd be the real winners. |
